how much do chrome rims slow you down

I have a set of 17" enkie chrome rims in the front and 18" in the rear and was wondering, if I get some 17" are 18" racing rims would it make a big difference? Some speed shops say that if you can burnout easy than they are not slowing you down that bad?

which enkei's do you have.......is your Mile:Gallon ratio good? - if u have a set of light 18's you should be fine, you'll probably lag off the line a litle bit, but its smooth sailing from there

i don't really know how much more (if any) chrome rims weigh than alloy wheels .. but i would say it's not really the chrome that'll slow you down its the overall weight of the rim/tire

For me this is a combination of personal opinon and also a little "fashion over function". Unless you specifically shop for light racing style wheels you will usually pick up some weight. Chrome a fair bit more so than say an alloy or aluminum style. I personally dont see too many chrome wheels that I think fit the Max, I like either a 6 spoke style (like theKonig Rated R's ) or a tuner style (like the Enkei RF-1 ) for our cars. But then again that is just my opinion. As far as the actual weight slowing you down, it does account for a small loss, but if you like the wheels stick with them. If weight and performance were everything people would be heading to the track with 14" wheels just to shave a few hundredths off there 1/4. Now that would look funny a Max on 14's

Being able to do a burnout has nothing to do with how much power you have, or how much power you waste with big wheels. Find a different "perfomance" shop to go to. The one you went to is staffed with idiots.

You would have to weigh the stock wheels vs the new wheels. I figure a gain of 3-5lbs per wheel should reduce the 0-60 by 1-3 tenths and 1/4 by 2-4 tenths.
