Just mounted 235/45/17 Dunlops...
Dunlop SP5000 Assymetricals...and oh, the wheel gap!! Now it's worse! I guess the next thing to get are springs.
Youz guys think this will reduce the wheel gap a lot?
By the way, I did verify with Dunlop that it's 'safe' to mount the 235/45/17 on the stock 7" rim width (reason being I had a hard time here in DFW finding 225/50/17).
Skeptics and believers alike, call 800 # and verify yourself.

Just curious.
PS: I just spoke to Theresa in Customer Service at Dunlop. She stated that the acceptable rim width range for Dunlop SP Sport 5000s in 235/45R17 is 7.5" to 9.0" in accordance with guidelines established by the United States Tire and Rim Association. You can contact Dunlop at 800-548-4714 if you want to check this out for yourself.
You should also look at Dunlop's official position with respect to running tires on rims that are either too wide or too narrow. It's contained in the section under RIM WIDTH in the following article:

Dude, do you work for Dunlop or other tire manufactures? Get off peoples back about getting a 235 on the stock rims. There are too many people to count that have gone this route without a problem. Our 17x7.05 are slightly bigger than the 7.0 stated anyways.
I am just sick of seeing you saying this crap.

For those interested, I called the Nissan Consumer Line 1800-NISSAN1 and stated my case. The conversation involved phone tags between their engineers, the rep and me. Basically they do recommend going with the OEM tire size but the wheel can accomodate the 235mm size provided the install was done properly, i.e. by a reputable company (NTB installed mine).
Unfortunately, when I asked for a written documentation of this, they don't have any. They suggested that everything will be documented in my file should I decide to re-query it up again.

My god that damn wheelgap, I have even considered a larger profile tire to reduce it. I would love to lower my car but the possibility of voiding my 5 yr/100K warranty scares me.

Well it won't void your powertrain warranty that's for sure. I don't think the warranty even covers your springs to begin with.

Your statement that "there are too many people to count that have gone this route without a problem" does not amount to a compelling argument as far as I'm concerned. Find one single tire manufacturer that will document in writing that it's OK to mount their 235/45R17 tires on a 7"-wide rim and you'll have my attention and my respect. Otherwise, all you're doing is stating your opinion. And everyone can judge what that's worth for themselves.

Frankly, I don't care what the Nissan rep or engineers have to say. Nissan isn't in the business of manufacturing tires. When it comes to violating the guidelines for rim width established by the United States Tire and Rim Association, the only opinion I'm interested in is the tire manufacturer's.
You, however, may take Nissan's unofficial and undocumented word for it if you like.
PS: I just spoke to Nicole in Customer Service at NNA (1800-NISSAN1). She said that Nissan can only recommend tires sizes that are listed in the Owners Manual. Any discrepancies should be referred to the tire manufacturer.
