Just took delivery, BS from service dept. begins

Just got back from taking delivery. Did the old walk through the dealership with the sales guy. He introduced me to the service manager and told him I always run synthetic in my vehicles. Right away SM pipes up that Nissan says we can't use synth until 48000 km and it will void warranty and that Nissan is concerned about excessive oil consumption. I challenge him to show me that in writing and he says that he's not here to debate me. Any shred of truth to that whatsoever. I hate f*ck#ng dealers. (Love the car)

Congrats on the purchase of your 2k2. Get use to the dealers doing stuff like that, its pretty normal in the Nissan world. I got rid of my car because of that and went to Acura and have been happy since. They will even put synthetic in my car for me. Anyways, don't tell them, just change the oil yourself, keep records of the receipts, and use nissan oem filters. The dealer can't do anything and nissan to void your warranty since mobil 1 or most synthetics are fully approved by the nissan standards of oil. If you had a problem they would loose in court since you have the receipts as proof.

I totally agree with you, I was so f*"&!#$ fed up with dealers trying to BS me. I was like "HAH, do you KNOW WHO YOU'RE TALKING TO!?!"
my car says maxima.org on it ffs =P

They tried to tell me HLSD doesn't exist, oh it's not coming out till next model maxima, oh we don't get shipments of those, oh, you must be thinking of the 2003.

I called BS on all of that. I REALLY hate dealers.

Oh my favorite lie of all, "You don't even have to break it in, new motors are like that now."

Congrats on the max!! expect a steady diet of that crap everytime you go to the dealership--I actually returned my extended service plan b/c of stuff like that and other things as well, Nissan was very prompt in getting my check to me though--now I have new 18" rims and will soon have springs, $$ was much better spent

Just be like me and never go to the dealer after you buy the car . I bought a maxima because I know the car is going to last and I won't have to even deal with warranty issues, maybe it's just wish full thinking. I'm sure my mods void my warranty any how.

I dont know whats the point using synthetic in our NISSANS!!! Except u are spending more. I'll never own this more than 3 years, so i really dont think i need that extra protection. "Synthetic" should be changed to "peace of mind" oil. Hell i dont even think i should keep using mobil 1 in my 911 turbo.

I think the use of synthetic is dependent on where you live. In the winter my car is regularily cold started in -20 to -30C weather. If I lived in a warm weather region, I would run dino oil. I don't believe in switching between oil types, hence synthetic is used year round.

Congratulations on your new ride! I have the exact same color--- tungsten blue. Like yours, I also have a 6spd with HLSD. There probably aren't that many tungsten blue, 6spd, HLSD's on this board!

Do you have leather or cloth? Mine is cloth and I suspect it is pretty rare...

The guys at my dealers are so greedy I am sure they would sell me new shoes and tell me that it would push the pedals better. It's nothing but profit! Nothing to do with the welfare of your car.

I have leather. The most popular colors seem to be Majestic Blue, Super Black, Sterling Mist, and Grey Lustre. I suspect that Merlot may be rare (StereoDude is the only other member that I'm aware of who has it). Enjoy your ride! I'm still breaking mine in. We may be the only two here with tungsten blue (6spd and HLSD).

Look in the owners manual, it says specifically that it is acceptable to use sythetic.
