What is a good Koni adjustment?

I just installed a set of Koni's on my maxima. (kind of a pain but...hopefull worth it) I have Intrax springs (1 3/4) and am wondering what setting is good for this set up? Right now i adjusted the rear to full soft and the front to a half turn to firm (?) soft/med. It rides nice. almost like stock. Is this ok?

basically...Are the shocks going to be ok at this setting?

That's about where I had them set... Crank the fronts up to about 75% and try it out. I think you'll like it... The ride won't really suffer but the floatiness will greatly decrease!

Re: Re: What is a good Koni adjustment?

Most people seem to set their rear shocks (Koni or AGX) around 75% to minimize the infamous bounce of the light back end. I've had mine set there a long time, though right now I could see going down to 50%. I assume you got Konis for better performance, so you'll want to stiffen the rear to compensate for FWD understeer. Check http://www.rogerkrausracing.com/ , read the "Understeer/Oversteer Correction Sheet". Fronts I used to run full soft on the street, full firm for autocrossing, but I actually think it's more comfortable about 50% in front for daily use. Of course, springs affect this, and I'm on coilovers. Remember, the springs to the support work, struts/shocks just dampen the spring rate.

I got my rears 75% stiff 2 full turns and the fronts full stiff and so does Cumalot he says he loves the way the cars handles, I also have intrax springs as well. No potholes I go full stiff, but hopefully Ill be living in Atlanta and I am going full stiff all the way.

75% firmness for the rears. 50% firmness for the fronts.

Jaime, don't you remember what's my rear Konis are set at? Is it the same as yours...75%?

What roads do you guys have that you can put your Koni's so stiff!!?!! I have mine (with H&R no less) on full soft rear, 3/4 turn front. Seems to float much less than stock but is also harsher too. Much stiffer and the ride becomes punishing... It's not like I can't take it, but I feel bad for the car as it is obviously taking jarring blows/rattles and that can't be good. On smooth roads and highways it is pure joy but the fact remains that in my immediate neighborhood, the good roads are a rare commodity.

I agree... I set the rears to 75-90% firm the first day i put them on and it was literaly like driving around in a box cart. No suspension! The car hoped on the highway, and you got tossed around inside the car. I understand performence...but its a maxima not an F1 car. With the rears set to full soft and fronts a half turn the car rides smooth but still handles better then stock shocks.

But the point is....IS THIS OK FOR THE KONI'S? or....will this harm the shocks. (riding full soft rear)??

No, it will not hurt your Konis. I kept my rears at near full soft up to last week or so. I put on some modified upper strut mounts that gave me back over an inch of suspension travel that I had originally lost. The ride has softened up a bit, so I'll probably take it apart again and crank the firmness up 3/4 turn or so. Otherwise, I probably would have left them at full soft as having it stiffer didn't (IMHO) help handling as much as the cranking up the fronts.
