Yes, if you are talking about converting from auto to 5-speed, it is a "direct" bolt-on pursay, but other stuff (clutch installation, cylinders, etc) require some fabrication.

You will need a 5-speed starter, the teeth are slightly different.

No, for a 5 speed VLSD tranny you would need axles specific to the I30t, they are different than the normal 5-speed axles. However I suspect that the 5 speed needs different axles than the auto as well, so it wouldn't really matter, you'd have to buy new axles anyways.

You have probably seen this but:

Try and get an LSD I30 tranny from your local junkyard.

i30 better trans to get than max?

i'm switching to 5 speed in the summer also but was looking at maxima 5 speed trans...u guys say it's better to get 5 speed trans on an i30 than another 5 speed maxima even though it's the same year? i know they are the same and all (manufacturers infiniti and nissan) but dag, how could that be better than a maxima trans? also, i have a GLE wit the wood grain interior...i know i'm gonna have to probably rip that whole mid section up but how bad is it going to look? anyone have any before and after pics?

No stock 5-speed Maxima has LSD, Limited Slip Differential. On a stock 5-speed, you have an open differential. This means that whenever a wheel looses traction, the power is shifted more to that wheel to get power back to it, so you loose power in the wheel that has traction. An LSD transmission corrects this. On an LSD tranny, whenever a wheel looses traction, some power is taken away from that wheel and sent to the other wheel to get the traction back. You see what I mean? Reply back if you don't. Canada = snow = no traction = need for LSD.

actually both 5speed and auto have the same part number meaning they are the same. I used my auto trans starter in my 5 speed ad its fine. You can verify this via Mitchell On Demand or AllData. I forget the years but 1 year starter had xx amount of teeth and the newer years had an extra amount of teeth supposely making it better.

As I am aware of, only some I30s in Canada had them. I do not know why they don't in the US, but you will have to look for one in Canada.
