Neon Install

Can anyone explain how to wire in-car neons. Where do I wire them to and how. Also can the ones that use your power outlet be wired in?

get some wire and extend the red wire(power cable) and connect it to one side of the cigarette lighter fuse..........now take the black wire(ground), entend it if necessary and connect it to anything that is metal, such as a screw or a bolt, nut.....doesnt matter - and thats it - your done - they will only turn on at night when your headlights are on, you can wire them to a switch also if u desire

I have neons in my car. I wired them to my fuse box...you should have extra places for accessories. Then i got a toggle switch, or an interuptor switch. Same principle as a regular light swtich, on, off. You can get one from Circuit City. Connect the wire from the fuse box to that and then run a wire to the neons and complete the closed circuit. I got my neons from street glow. Interior lights (smaller ones) come with a cigarette lighter adapter. Alls I did was cut the wire and sauder it to the wire from the toggle switch. You can mount them anywhere you want. I put my toggle switch next to the dimmer swtich under the guages. Of course you can always pay to have it done, but wheres the fun in that. Hope it helps.

A Little Write UP

This is a Little write up on How I did it:
(It's getting late so I will try to make sense)

*Turn off Car, Takes keys out, Turn Lights off

1) Take out the center shifter cover by prying up the edges. There should be a pair of wires going into a white box which lights up your ashtray. (If you want the little light inside the ashtray than stop here and find another way) Cut the wires and leave exposed.

2) Take however many neons you have, and splice the positive wires together, and the negative ones together.

3)Buy a $1 lighted switch switch at Pep Boys. There should be three terminals, Acc. Power. Ground.

4)Splice the Positive wires from the neons into the terminal on the switch which reads "Acc" Do the same with the negative wires which read "Grnd."

5)Now splice the Positive (red) wire from the ashtray into Switch terminal which reads something like "Power" Now splice the Negaitive ground wires into the same terminal you just spliced the ground wires from the neons to. Wrap it all up in Electrical tape and you have yourself some neons.

* Neons only go on when switch is on and parking light or driving lights are on.
** You may want to install a low amperage in line fuse.

I hope this write up helps. Not the best. But at Least I tried.
