Check Engine Went off - do codes get erased

My '99 had a check engine light on. Since it is still under warranty,
I let it stay that way for the dealer to check it at an appointment
(tomorrow). The light has now gone off on it's own, after about
7 days and probably 30 engine starts. Will the error codes still be
in the computer ? Or did they reset when it shut the
light off ?

I really don't want to waste the time or money at the stealer if
the codes are no longer stored. I'm sure that they'll charge me to
poke around for an hour, then declare "nothing found. I'll spend
over an hour dropping the car off with drive time, and another hour picking it up. So, if the codes are gone, I'd prefer to skip the
visit to the stealer.

Thanks for any info,
Bob

If the check engine light disappeared, then I wouldn't worry about it. If it comes back on, then do an ECU check yourself. It's covered in the "ECU fault code diagnosis" thread up top.

It wouldn't hurt just to reset it, or just check to see if you have the 0505 code.

That is a good thing. A buddy of mine put his intake off of his 300ztt and put it on my car, thus causing the engine light to come on. Thankfully his dad works a nissan parts garage. He told me that after about 100 starts the ecu will reset itself. I hope this helps you!

What it does more so is if it no longer detects a problem for X amount of times in a row the car was started it will turn itself off. Sometimes on things like an intake it reads it as too much air coming in and throws a CEL. If it is gone it means the problem has not happened in a while.
