Busted wheel lugs
Busted wheel lugs
Hey fellas, I need some help. Two of my lugs on my left front wheel mysteriously broke off, and I need to get this taken care of quickly as I don't want my wheel to fall off! I was wondering if any of you know whats involved in replacing the studs, if its something I can easily do myself. I am a moderately experienced DIYer, so as long as special tools aren't required I'm pretty sure I could handle the job. If any of you have done this or know whats involved, please let me know. Thanks

Haven't done it on my maxima, but did help my dad with his pickup truck a few years ago. all we did was:
take the tire off
punch the broken studs out using a hammer and small metal rod or strong center punch. or could use a small socket that you are not very fond of.
put studs in from the back of the hub. make sure the threads line up.
put tire on and tighten studs to pull them through. again...make sure threads line up or you're screwed (no pun intended).
take off tire to make sure studs are seated well. reinstall tire tightening again.
you may also want to check it after driving a bit...like 50 miles or so.
you should be able to do this without taking the hub off of the car, but if you can't get enough clearance to put the new studs in from the backside, then the hub must come off...but I doubt you need to do this.
good luck.
btw, good choice on doing it yourself. new studs are only a buck or two each. very cheep to fix, but shop would rip you off.
