New type of injection for Maxima's to boost hp possibly...

Found this on the Supra board- Propane injection. Anyone heard of doing this? Might be something good to try out if it is a better alternative to water or N20 injection.

A company that sells these kits is http://www.dynamicracing.com/

Just thought that I would throw that out there and see what people thought.

Propane? Isn't that Hank Hill sells?

Justin, there is something similar in Korea, in a few of the "Express Cabs." It's not exactly propane, but its very similar in design and use. The trade off is higher maintenance cost, and costly rebuilds.

It is an idea, thats been used before, but on a Maxima, only god knows what will happen.

Soundmike, LoL indeed he does.

Why don't we just inject pure oxygen?

That would be a very good way to burn a hole in the piston or weld the rings to the cylinder wall.

ie.. gas welders. when you want to heat the flame up SUPER high to cut though thick metal, you turn on the oxygen and the heat/intensity of the flame goes though the roof.

i thought Acetylene (+ Oxygen) was used in gas welders?

I was kidding It's illegal to transport O2 without a permit. O2 will work if you have enough fuel to burn.

Oxygen reacts very violently with aluminum. Absolutely correct, if you pump O2 into the engine it will go BOOM. The solid rocket booster in the space shuttle use aluminum as the "solid" part and we all know what happens when it's mixed in with fuel and O2.

This is kind of what I was talking about on the CAI vs. Popcharger thread, that whatever the air temp at the intake filter, the heat of the manifold would seem to be an issue that isn't really addressed. This stuff comes out of the bottle at -45º, which will certainly cool things down! Sounds intriguing, and according to them the C5 people and others have quietly been running this for some time.

I don't know that propane is going to have the same effect as N2O because N2O adds 33% oxygen to the mix to make for a more efficient fuel burn. Additional fuel is what makes for the additional power not the N2O itself. All that to say that even if the propane "cooled" off anything (manifold, intake, etc.) it would not do much as a power adder like the N2O does. Know what I mean? I may have just confused myself ....
