I blew out my rear SS line tonight due to my sway bar. I need to put a new one in ASAP, what tools do I use to detatch the line, and what precautions, etc. do I need to take.

 

You can do it with just a basis set of open end wrenches and a screwdriver. Make sure that you have some thing handy to catch the dripping fluid and make sure that you don't let the master cylinder drain all the way. Once you replace it just add more fluid and you should be good to go, it is not a very hard thing to do. Me and one of my friends installed a Stillen Big Brake Kit on my car the other night in about 1 hour!

Also make sure that you bleed the brake line.

 

If you 'blew' the line... you'll need to bleed the system...

 

how should i blead the system

 

open end wrenches work but its recommended to use flare nut wrenches. youll know what i mean if someday you loosen a brake line and it strips.

if air went into your system then youll need to bleed the system. How low did the brake fluid go?

 

VERY LOW, enough so i took 2/3 of a bottle to fill it again, and enough so I literally had no pressure on the brake pedal. I hope the cylinder didn't blow.

 

if your brake pedal is low or spongy most likely you got air in the system. youll have to bleed your brakes...

 

And he means ALL 4 brakes.

 

Well when I put the pedal down it goes down VERY EASILY and doesn't stop the car at all. It's full of fluid now, and I got the huge leak down to a dripping leak. Is the master cylinder shot, or will bleading it and getting a new line fix the prob?

Master cylinder not shot, you just have air in your system, bleed it and get a new line, you'll be fine.

Also don't get any brake fluid on your paint you will be angry.

IIRC... Start bleeding the furthest caliper from the master cylinder 1st and work your way closer to the master cylinder. It'll help to have someone pump the brakes while you open/close the bleeder screw.

Yeah I bled the three working brakes and plugged the broken one, but bleeding the plugged one wasn't working. I got some brake action back, but not enough. Going to have my shop just get a new line tomorrow and start all over.
