Does $15k sound right?

For a 1998 fully-loaded SE auto or 1998 GLE with ~50k miles.

Sounds too high to me, even if it only has 50K.

Dayum...'cuz that's what everything in my area is going for.

And if all those models are going for that price...how can I possibly bring them down to a "fair" price. What is a fair price?

Well, we know that mileage, condition, options, trim level, etc determine the price of the car.

The cars I am considering are barely different.

Too high....
I can find a 99 Max with the same milage for 12-13k. For 15, you are looking at a 2000 by now.. my co-workers friend got a 2001 SE pearl white / black leather - all options for 18 grand, I think it had 7k miles so you do the math

I paid 15000 for the same car your described 4 months ago. I live in MN and couldn't get the dealer to budge. I did hose em for some brakes and new tires though. I think the price sounds fair if your gettin it at a dealer. You should try for 1000 - 2000 less if it is a private party. Then again, prices vary so much on these cars its tough to tell if your the one getting bent, or if you are the one doing the bending. Its pretty rare that that both sides make out fair. Just my input.

It really depends on where you are here in Dallas they are getting alot for them sometimes the 99 and 00 prices overlap alot. I have seen 97's and 98's in that price range 13-16k here in Dallas.

Yup..I really think it matters where you live. I'm in Cleveland, so I guess the price should be higher...right?

Waitaminute, aren't dealers supposed to change these due to their vehicle safety points rule? That's what most of the dealers in So. Cal. here do.

If you're buying from a dealership they're not going to budge very much. I know a lot of people here say they have loaded '99 Maxima's in their area selling for < $15k, but in some area's you're not going to find a loaded '99 Maxima (with average mileage) for under $19k. The area you live in has a lot to do with it. Car prices in CT, for example, are pretty damn high (like everything else here). The best advice is to find the average price the particular year you're looking for is selling for in your area and try to push the dealer to go down by $1,000 or so (more or less depending on if the car has particularly high or low miles).

Like you said, if every dealership in your area is selling for around $15k don't expect that to come down too much.

Look at the condition of the car. I would rather buy a car with 65k on it than 50k even if it is a year older. If you save 2k or so, use that $$$ to tune the sucker up, i.e. brakes, fluid changes, and then have some fun with the rest with some MODs.

If you are going to keep the Max for a long time, millage is something the Max can handle...so really, extra KM's are not too bad if you save the $$ to put back into the car.

Just my 2 cents.

Hmmm...I'd rather have a low-mileage car (naturally), because of the problems my '91 began to develop as a result of its age and mileage.
