is nitrous any good?

Would it be worth it to get nitrous(the one that goes in your intake not the manifold dry kit i think) would the wear and tear on the engine and price be worth it????

Nitrous makes great wipped cream.

Treat your engine good, and it will treat you good too. In other words, use it wisely and have fun.

Once you get it and make it work correctly, you will wonder why you waited so long in the first place.

I've recently been thinking about nitrous too. I Would probably want a NOS or NX kit. I've done searching and read a recent post where someone had made a list of parts needed - I can't seem to find it now. IF I were to buy the kit what would be the cheapest way to safely do it. I understand I'll say I'll start w/ a 50 shot and then get addicted and start stealing to buy more NOS to get a 100 shot and so on but what would be the bare minimum required?
Am I wrong thinking that I'll get a kit, and a window switch for starters and run that for a little while. Is that enough to start with? Or should I save my money until I can buy the kit, window switch, and all the gauges? My car is getting slower with each passing day

Nitrous is one of the best $500 I've ever spent... but like the other members say... use it wisely and do some research

If you are going to be running Nitrous, do it right the first time. Dont half *** it, Nitrous is NOT a toy. I have seen people mis-use it or even mistune Nitrous. I have seen people's piston melt, I have even seen a valve that shot right into the top of the piston.

If you want the Proper setup, you will need:
(And never mind the A/F gauge, unless you plan on buying a expensive one, they are nothing but a distraction and a waste of $$$)

-Nitrous Kit
-Window Switch
-Window Pills (2 sets)
-Fuel Pressure Gauge
-EGT Gauge
-Brass Fittings (For the FPSS & FP sender)
-Purge is optional (but i bought one)
-Bottle Heater (Its a must if you want to be consistent on power)
-Nitrous Pressure Gauge
-Bottle Down Pipe (Some states & tracks require this if you have a hatchback)

Thanks for the info. Synki. My car has 130,000 on it, but it runs great so I may do it.
I was just checking out the NOS site, what RPM pills do you use? The window switch comes w/ 3000 on and 6000 off, this seems like it would all ready be where I would want NOS to kick in. Maybe a little later, like 3500 or even 4000? What's your advice? ALso, I can't find install instructions anywhere, the dry jet goes into the intake path, does it go after the MAF? If so, how would the MAF know that extra oxygen was in there, and flow more gas? Maybe that question is beyond the scope of my text, hehe. Sorry so many questions but this NOS bug wont let go of me. Whos gauges do you recommend? NOS, Autometer who? Thanks for any response.

Since you have 130K miles, I would do a compression test. You can have either a mechanic do it or you can pick up a kit at a local automotive store.

When i ran my nitrous, i had it kick in at 3400-6000rpms. I think that 3000 is a bit too early. If you spray to early, you may traction problems. You shoudl always spray above 3K rpms, nothing under. I had an auto so i wanted to shift before the tranny shift so there was less wear & tear on the tranny. I have gotten good results even though i dont spray to redline.

If you are going with a dry kit (like me), the nozzle has to be after teh MAF-like between the MAF & TB. NOS recommends nothign closer then 6" from the TB. I did mine about 4 inches or so form the TB.

AS far as gauges, i use a NOS Nitrous pressure gauge & i used Autometer Fuel Presuure & EGT Gauges.

Nitrous is one of the best bangs for your buck you'll ever find. In most cases a stock fuel system can handle anywhere between 15-20% more HP from stock. If you are concerned you can alway run a higher flowing fuel pump, buy a fuel pressure regulator, or even bigger injectors. For a dry system I would'nt run any more than a 50 shot, 75 tops. Its important to have the proper fuel pressure, and air/fuel ratio so you can be safe, and have the maximum power from your maxima. I would highly recommend the Venom-2000 kit it will work with the maxima and is fully programable. http://www.venom-performance.com/NF/T/vcn2000.htm
