Gas tank playin' the flute...

After getting home from work and parking in my garage I keep hearing a sound like someone playing a very quiet scratchy note on a flute...

I figured out it was do do with the pressure diff between the gas tank and the outside world - if I remove the gas tank I can hear the pressures equalising and then the sound stops.

Anyone see (or heard) this before? Is there a known fix? Maybe cleaning the dirp line or tank vent line?

Thanks!

I can't give you any guidance on this but my dad noticed this same sound from his 2001 Pathfinder earlier this week. I removed the gas cap while it was making the noise and it stopped. I might call the dealer this week and ask them about it but I am not too concerned.

OR... better yet... why not make yourself feel better by telling people it's a mod?

i mean, how many people can say they have a car that can freakin' whistle!!

Hey, this happened to me also. It started making a high pitch humming sound all the time and when I would open the gas cap it would hiss and let the air out and then stop. Well then eventually my Check engine light came on and it was code 0111 and 0807 they are both EVAP codes. The dealer says that it will start making that noise when your EVAP control valve starts going bad. Hope this helps. Take Care
