What do you mean "get caught"???

I tell the cop I have it, especially when I get pulled over without being clocked. Never had a problem..

He said, "You might as well put that away, cause it didn't do you any good."

Which I guess is true.

Radar detector = false sense of security

#1 they gotta catch me speeding. #2 they gotta find my detector
The only speeding ticket I've gotten in the Max was within 24hrs after buying it (before radar install)

I got caught after being "paced by aircraft." Since my detector won't protect me against that, I don't fault it. . . It has saved me countless other times.

Funny story though is a friend was driving his prelude on an open stretch of freeway and was doing about 130, well a plane clocked him and they had a CHP going fast enough to let him catch up but pull him over. . . When the cop asked him why he was going so fast, in not so nice of a manner, my friend replied, "I was racing the crop duster," which happened to be flying by right next to the freeway at the time. The CHP was laughing so hard he reduced the ticket to 90 in a 70 and let my friend go.

People who use radar detectors need to be smarter than the equipment that's just stuck on the windshield. All radar detectors have limitations. The quicker you learn them, the better you will be. The only way to defeat radar is to sniff it out BEFORE it clocks YOU. People still think that they will ALWAYS get enough warning to slow down. Sometimes they do; Sometimes they just get a ticket.

Radar detector = false sense of security
That false sense of security is the downside to radar detectors. If you feel too secure you don't keep an eye out for cops (especially ones who might have turned their radar off, but can still see you go flying by...).

I know that radar detectors aren't gods gift to speeders and I pay attention to what is going on in the road. . . I only have a radar detector in my own car and not in the rentals I drive on a daily basis (I work for a rental car company) and while I don't speed with customers in the car, I do push 10MPH over the limit when I ned to, and have pushed even worse when really needed. The only reason I was caught was because I simply didn't notcie a plane, I still don't remember seeing a plane, and I am still doubting a plane is there, but when the cop was behind me I had been doing 65 (in a 65) for about a mile. Either way I saw the CHP before my detector did but I had been caught earlier. I think the dectector is for days when I feel like being lazy or am just tired and am not as alert as I normally am.

I got caught on a few weeks ago at 1am doing 70 in a 55, the Trooper was actually nice, asked me if i knew the speed limit, blah blah, brought me back my written warning for 65 in a 55 and asked me "Does that pick up laser?" I said yeah its supposed to. He asked if it went off, i said it didnt. Then he laughed and said he hoped i didnt pay too much for it.

Radar detector

This thread reminds me of a joke I heard a while back.

An older guy got a new 2002 Maxima and took her out for a drive. He was speeding about 120 when a cop finally succeded in pulling him over. The cop wasn't very pleased as it was at the end of a long day and he wanted to get home for dinner. He told the Maxima driver that if he could come up an excuse for speeding that he had not heard before, he would let him go and not ticket him.
The Maxima driver thought for a minute and said. "I had a dream last night that my wife ran off with a state trooper. I was so happy that I bought this new car and took her out for a drive. When I looked in the mirror and saw you behind me, I freaked out and took off. I was scared you were trying to bring her back!"

I always have my Radar on but you have to be careful as many cops only turn their radar on long enough to check a fast car and shut it off. I am waiting for someone to develop a jamming system that really works.

Jamming tecnology is illegal in many states and if discovered on your vehicle, can earn you a fine worse than almost any speeding ticket you could get hit with.

Just fyi to ne1 who reads this - check your local laws if you're seriously considering a jammer.
