Using the key to open the door

I just realized today that the only door I can use the key to physically unlock the door is the driver's side.....

I didn't feel like diggin into my bag for the main/alarm key ring after I picked up my car from tire place, so it completely threw me for a loop when I pulled out the valet key at the passenger side door and realized that there was no damn place to put it

I attribute this obscene lack of observation to the fact that I have never been a passenger in my max and I get i professionally detailed

and yes even though I do check the car periodically for new paint chips....I STILL NEVER REALIZED IT

I just thought I would mention it...as I sit here and laugh at my damn self....especially since we have discussed every other feature of the car...but I think we missed this one

driving the car for a whole dang year....and never noticed...shame on me!!!!

I'm going outside to look at my car...see if I missed anything else

Took me 4 months to spot that one. Though I must say I have never been a passenger in my own car.

What also took me a while to spot... No external antena. Nice and clean. (less drag!)

the antenna is built into the back window. looking at the car from the back, its a bunch of squigly lines on the lower right, aside from the defroster lines. pretty cool i thought.

I hadn't noticed mine until about 8 mnths after I had it. I never used the key to get it until one day I left my key pad in the house and had to use my key to get it. I was like wow. Kinda like the guy on the Jetta commercial. I found out if you unlock the door and hold the key there all the doors unlock. And they do the same when you lock it. Previous car was a Neon so bare with me..

if you put the key into the drivers door and turn it to the right(i think or left?) 2 times, all doors will unlock... Or 2k2 owners, if you turn the key 2 times to the right, and hold, your window will roll down and oppisite if u turn the key the other way... I think the sunroof closes too.

It took me 4 months to realize no keyhole on the passenger side. To this day I've never used the key on the car, always the keyless entry so it's not really a bother. Hmmm....so you can unlock all the doors with the key? Pretty neat, how bout the windows? They come down too with the key?

Oh yeah...the antenna in the rear window is sweet. I just wonder if you ever have to remove your tint if it's going to get jacked up. Also if you want to get XM radio you have to get a whole other antenna, SUCKS! Ahh well.

If you wanted to automagically roll down windows you should have got a Jetta. But you were more worried about comfort and kicking Jettas butts!

A bit of experience will roll up or down the 4 windows at once.

HAHA yeah...for some reason girls in Jettas are always wanting to race me. Guess it's my HUGE 4-inch exhaust tip, HAHAHA. Yeah I like the roomy backseat of my car. No room in those Jettas.

When I saw this post I thought "yeah sure...". Then I went outside to look at my 2K2 (had it for 5 months now). Can't believe I missed something so obvious....

That's the problem with technology: you forget the basics...

The windows also open and close using the keyfob btw, just in case someone else doesn't know about it.

I know you can open the windows using the keyfob by holding the unlock button, but how do you close the windows using the keyfob? I tried holding the lock button, but that didn't do anything except lock my doors.

Using the keyfob can only open the windows and cannot close them. For closing you must result to the key to close while the car is not running for accessories

Ya, isn't that brilliant? I would much rather roll up the windows than put them done. Besides why does it only do two of the windows? Someone needs to figure out how to roll up and drop all of the windows. Come on people get on it!!!

Vettes and Mustangs have been doing this for awhile. With the advent of remote keyfobs, the companies felt that they could save a bit of money in doing away with the passenger side door lock. Makes sense!

What's this black binder doing in my glove box?

This is how I picture most of you in this thread: You bring your new Maxima home, you admire it, and finally open the glove box and see a strange black binder called the "Owners' Manual." You say, "What's this? Some worthless propaganda from Nissan? I don't have time to read this nonsense. Besides, it's taking up valuable room here for my tapes." So it immediately goes in the trash.

Took me months to figure out the rv mirror was double-hinged so you can move the whole thing up and out of the way. Super-cool for the super-tall.

You sure about that...I had a early 90's 626 (last gen) and they hid the keyhole in the middle of a brakelight so it was real hard to see, but it was there.

Now I have to go try to the key thing on my AE. I remember somebody starting a rumor that the AE had the key thing which rolled the windows up and down, but I never tried it. I'll check on my way out for lunch.

learn something new every day...

that's what's great about this forum - I didn't know about the key fob rolling down the windows til I read this thread - way cool! I just tried it and it works.

One other thing is if you remove the key from the ignition, you still have power to the windows and sunroof for 30 seconds (don't remember exactly) until you open the doors.

Cool,
I guess when my PIAA Super Plasmas burn out, I can just go to the store and buy the APC's instead of ordering them online.

ok, woah there bucko... while those manuals can be helpful.. hwne it comes to options you can't tell what you have and what you don't! it lists all available options for all models... not what YOU personally have on YOUR specific car...

Try this....

For 2K2 Owners Only

After inserting the key, hold your key to the right for a few seconds and both front windows will roll down. Hold it to the left and both windows will roll up.

Also, you can lower the front windows by holding down the unlock button the fob but you cannot let them back up.
