Are you a 5spd? If so it should be a fair race considering you both can drive equally well/horribly. If you are auto, don't bother.

We are both auto.
Do I keep the overdrive on or turn it off when I race? I also heard people starting from 1st then going to 2nd and then D. When should I switch? What RPM?

The RSX Type-S is not available in an automatic transmission (only 6-speed manual). As for the shifting thing, leave the car in drive and let it do it's thang!
Best G-Tech 0-60MpH Manually shifting w/ overdrive off: 7.32 seconds
Best G-Tech 0-60MpH Car in drive w/ overdrive left on: 7.02 seconds

Then he has an RSX type regular. No 200 ponies under his hood. More like 160. Race him good. For money.

The Overdrive made absolutely no difference since I was only going up to 60MpH, it was the shifting that slowed me down. My best run with the car in drive and overdrive off was 7.03 seconds, hence the difference was obviously due to manually shifting (which makes sense as the 4th Gen is programmed to shift at optimal points unlike the 5th).

Question: what is the logic behind disabling overdrive to improve 0-60? I don't own a maxima, yet, but from I know it should finish the 60 at the top of 2nd gear, no?

automatics are low to mid 15 second cars. if you race, you better beat him off the line. every tenth will count. make sure you have less than a 1/4 tank and if you want, you can remove your rear bench (or all other seats). the type S is is rated at 14.8 according to C&D. if you ask me, that's too close for comfort. then again he might be new to driving it and won't be able to fully extract its potential. just race 'em!

Yes it does, and I am glad to see that you know what you are talking about. However other people don't, and they believe it helps and unlocks the TC to all gears (which is doesn't). And yes, 60MpH is easily hit at the top of 2nd.

If it's not the Type S, you should have no problem with him. If it's the Type S, if the driver know how to drive it, he should beat you. I hope he has the Type S if he said that's the RSX is faster because the regular RSX is real slowwww.

The Type-S isn't all that fast either. Faster than an auto Maxima? Yeah, of course - but it's not incredibly fast or anything. I test drove one (among many many MANY other cars) before getting my Maxima (came down to being able to get a $10k loan or buying the car and owning it ) and it just didn't feel all that quick to me...

...not to mention that even with the six-speed it was still kind of whiny up around 80mph on the highway.

ok....you said that he has an automatic...the Type-S only comes in 6-speed....if he's auto...then he's the 160hp car...and those things are pitifully slow...race him for lots of $$$ if he's an auto...

we're talking slower than a Civic Si....

There was a type S that ran at bandimere in colorado (5600 ft) and hit a like a 17.0, and i ran my auto max and hit a 16.8 but. There was somethin wrong with his car cause he blew his engine right when he got to the end, felt bad for the guy though.

Nice pic, but you know that the hummv is stuff in that pic right? Those things are POS, I know this because I drove one almost everyday. The only 4x4 that can get stuck on level dry ground.

But I agree with the masses here. Non-type S, you need to play him like a pool shark would. Let him win a warm-up. Then tell him that you are feelin lucky and throw down 20-40 bucks on it
