Review: 17x8" Borbet Type E's + Kumho 712's = LOVE!

I went home from school this Saturday to install the set of 17x8" (35mm offset) Borbet Type E's shod with 235/40/WR17 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's that I had ordered from TireRack.com earlier in the week. Total came to $1129.65 including shipping, which took 3 days -- ordered Tuesday, they were at my house by Friday. Included was:
  • Wheels/Tires, mounted and balanced free
  • Black Center Caps
  • Brushed Aluminium Center Caps
  • 20 Chrome Lug Nuts
  • 4 Centering Rings, mounted on wheels
I had some trouble while unmounting my old wheels (several broken wheel studs -- did Nissan use clay when they made these?), so installation took a good 4 hours since I had to go in and replace the broken wheels studs. Anyway, after I finally got them on and mounted, I was blown away -- they look FANTASTIC.

EDIT: Took some pics on my way to the gym. See post below for picture, and click on it to go to a little "mini-gallery" of pictures of the rims.

In my opinion, very aggressive look, but conservative enough not to draw too much unwanted attention from the police.

But the kicker is improvement in the car's handling. I thought this thing handled like it was on rails before, but it's in a whole new world now. This thing is GLUED to the road. I have to really fight with it to make the wheels spin (automatic, but not for long), and wet traction is just as impressive as dry. Very, very confidence inspiring. And this is just with an FSTB and Eibach's -- no shocks, no RSB, no RSTB (though I don't know how much it would help).

Anyone who's been considering the move to better wheels/tires, DON'T hesitate. It's worth every single penny.

I just got in my order from TireRack, except that they are forgetful *******ers, waited for 4th wheel/tire for 4 more days..and it came w/o centering ring. Now I'm struggling on what to do.
I got Sport Edition Tekno 18x8 with Kumhos 235x40R18 mounted on them..my friends all envy me already

Ok, ok! Fine! I'll bring my digicam with me tonight on my way to the gym (just about to leave, actually) and see if I can't get some cool night shots. So get ready!

Got some pics on my way to the gym. They're night pics, and my digicam has trouble with that, but you should get the idea. Here's what they look like:

My lady wants me to take a trip to Atlanta this year. Maybe I'll see some of you fellas around town when I get there.

I knew a bunch of other guys had 'em, but I got 'em cause of several reasons:
  • Price: $169 per wheel
  • Width: 8" -- hard to find 17" wheels w/ 8" width
  • Offset, 35mm -- they fill out the wheel well perfectly and widen the car's stance beautifully
  • Conservative enough not to draw too much attention, but really attractive at the same time
  • I live in Athens 9 months of the year, so other people having them wasn't much of an issue
It was just too good of a deal to pass up, and they look great, so I figured, why not? I needed new tires, and it was what I could afford for the time being. I'll probably upgrade to something better/lighter later, like 18" SSR Competitions, once I've finished all the other mods I want to do.

  • Weight -- they're pretty light

Those are the main reasons I like the wheel also. Price without sacrificing quality.

And it's also a subtle stylish wheel while at the same time being sporty.

Re: Re: Re: nice man but..

The reason I got mine was I wanted my car to look like it was some kind of special edition maxima from nissan. Not to look too flashy but have a little more character than stock. Also like others have said the 8" width for handling.
