Remote start easier to steal?
Remote start easier to steal?
I have a 99GLE. Ingnition key has the chip in it to prevent theft. Right? I want to install a Remote Starter. To do this I've been told I need to add the Trandsponder bypass module. Now I'm not sure exactly how these bypass modules work, but you have to put a spare key in them right? Now I might be wrong but wouldn't supplying this key give a thief everything he needs to steal the car! Just a wild thought. Anybody have any feeback on this?

What you have stated is very true. Thats why the bypass module is cleverly hidden someplace under your dash. A car thief isn't going to spend time looking for your key. If he knows how to bypass the system and make your car start, it's gone, key or not! And how is the thief supposed to know that your car even has a remote start in it? Unless it's your neighbor, friend, or he's been spying on you.

Given some talent and time *any* security device can be bypassed and/or disabled.
Them things only buys you some time for someone else to notice that your car is in the process of being stolen and hopefully do something about it before your car goes bye-bye.

the bypass module is only active when you press your remote start button...the alarm has a +12volt wire when you energize the remote start..then it will click on the transponder allowing it to remote start..for now. If the car is just sitting there....the thief cant just hot wire it. uneless he finds a 12v wire.and energizes the transponder.then..finds your starter wire and hot wires it. Its not worth their time to "Steal" a car with thoes factory anti-theft keys...they'll just take you stuff..
