Premium Oil Filter Analysis

For those interested in oil filter design

I found this SHO website that discusses premium oil filters.

http://www.shoclub.com/lubrication-o...n-oilpart1.htm

Based on this article I will not use Amsoil/Baldwin oil filters anymore.

Basically the problem with those filters and the Purolator Pure one is that they use dome side, or bottom end bypass valves. See diagram here:

http://www.shoclub.com/lubrication-o...n-oilpart2.htm

When the engine is running at high rpm’s, or the filter is dirty the bypass valve will be open, allowing oil to travel around, instead of through the filter. With the dome side/bottom bypass filters the oil will travel around the DIRTY side of the filter media collecting dirt before returning to the engine.

IMO based on this article and several others analyzing oil filters the best filters are the Mobil 1 or K&N.
