Attention People with Vortech problems

If you have recently encountered any issues with Vortech's customer service or with the build quality on a Supercharger I need you to send me a PM with the nature of the problem, your full name, and PHONE NUMBER. I have recently made nice with a Director at Vortech, and I may be able to help us out here.

So far of the people I know of are:

Deac
Furbiss

I need your contact info ASAP. Including the aformentioned 2 people.

Moderators, please sticky this temporarily.

Blowers are blowing...eh?

I take it that these Vortech blowers are blowing---UP, that is.
First it was Deac, then Furbiss & now you!
What is the average lifespan of these things?

I was told at one point by Vortech that these should last at least 100k miles. My question to follow this would be this: Are these problem blowers V1 or V2 or both?

What kind of problems are we talking about Del? My Vortec has recently started making a grinding noise that it didn't use to make. But I haven't noticed any performance loss. Thanks.

The problem is with both!

The problems we are experiencing are both with the V1 and the V2... Del's was screaming ridiculously loud even for a V1 which I was told was loud anyway but his was VERY loud. V2's are notoriously quiet but mine was SCREAMING too, it also had that same grinding sound that you are talking about. After a few months of driving the car with it normal, and no strange sound, that grinding ticks you off! There was no performance loss, I was still geting boost but you could tell something was definately wrong so I wanted to get it fixed before it completely blew up on me...I guess the same goes for Delio. I'm not sure what exactly Furbiss' problem was but I'm sure its just as serious. Good luck...

Josh,

PM me with your info ASAP... I need to be able to prove a trend here...

Gimme a quick rundown of the prob... how many miles on the SC etc.etc.. Your full name, serial no on the blower, and phone number. This guy seems pretty decent about calling people back, and he has a vested interest in making sure this does not get out of hand, let's just say he is not in customer service per se.

Donovan is right, his V2 was way loud, and from the sounds of it has gotten worse since his fiasco with Vortech, mine was loud, I sent it in for the swap, and have now been waiting 40 days for something that should have taken 10. I am frightened to death that I am going to get this blower back and it is going to sound like ****. I hope that does not happen, but if it does I want to be prepared. And I think I can head off the problem before it gets worse if we can get the right players at Vortech involved.

V-2 problems

my first one blow up. the compressor fan broke apart. now my second one, whick was replace less than a year ago is bad. the bearings were starting to go bad. it made the blower really loud and grindy sounding. it was used less the 9 months. i had to have my engine pulled out to remove the first blower because the hex bolt that goes on the bracket was stuck and getting striped. since then i have always done my own installs and removals of the blower. anyways i will PM my name and number also my serial # for the blower. later.

Hey Ferhan:

Your first blower...was that due to APG's faulty install?

most likely

but these blowers are not tdoing to well anyways. on top of that we barely use these blowers to their full power. the blowers can boost up to 20 psi and most of use are running no more than 12 psi and i am only running 7 psi.

20 psi with the regular aluminum ball bearing? Wow...did not know that. I thought that the compressor wheel (or whatever it is called) needs to be upgraded for anything more than 12psi boost.
Either way, I plan on playing safe and going with 3.33" pulley. I believe that is 8-9 psi of boost!

20psi, not on our set up. You will over rev the blower before you get their. Perhaps 20psi on a 1.6L motor with the blower exiting directly into the TB, but not on a 3.0L with a long crossover pipe.

Our crank pulley is 6.21", go to Vortechs web page ans do the impeller speed calculations. With a 2.87 you will realistically only see ~12psi.

Step up to a T trim unit if you want more.

UPDATE

talked to Jaimie today. they had not look at the blower yet and it has been there since monday. he told me service manager will look at it monday or tuesday and call me to confirm repairs. i asked him more than 3 times to see if the turn around would be 10 DAYS. he said yes. a few a hours after that he calls me and says that the blower has been looked at and needs minor repairs. i thought the service manager was going to call me and the blower had not been looked at. and again i asked him about turn around time. approx. 10 DAYS he said. so i asked him if i will get it back by the end of next week. he says i should. lets see if this happens. later.

No one has called me yet.. I tried to be patient and wait for them to call but its obvious they're trying to avoid me. I guess I have to call there and kick some a$$... and hopefully make some progress.

BTW the address for the Better Business Bureau that handles the area of California that Vortech is in is:

Better Business Bureau of the Tri-Counties
PO Box 129
Santa Barbara, CA. 93102

Hiring a lawyer might be too expnsive but making Vortech pay with negative publicity may make them change their ways!

Sh@#$ I just ordered/paid for my V2 kit today... I hope things work out.. I don't want to be SOL if something goes. Have you guys tried escalating above "that" director? (which director is he anyways)

Best of luck with the V2 man. When its working properly, its a great product. But I have to say that as a paying customer, they have treated me like crap! Vortech has the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. They were very rude to me and they are very evasive when it comes to extending themelves for their customers..... just ask the MANY other guys on here who've had to deal with them. Lets just hope you never have to call upon them for service. You'll probably be sorry in my opinion if you have to rely upon Vortech to help you.

Why is it Vortech we are talking about dealing with and not Stillen?

Stillen only customizes the kit to fix the Max... if you haveaproblm with any of the other components in the Supercharger kit besides the blower call Stillen. If you have trouble with the blower itself, Vortech has to handle the warranty work on the actual supercharger.

I think you get a 2 year warranty on any problems the blower itself may have. They dont cover work done though which is what I'm disputing!

They won't warranty the blower if you swapped to a smaller pulley... but don't tell them you did.

Stay calm. Not every single V2 owners have had problems. I had my V2 kit installed early Oct.2000 and I've not encountered any of these problems. As insurance I'll order the tensioner pulley from DanNY when I have the funds.

Josh,

The point of the thread was for me to gather as much info on the V2 issue as possible to present to Vortech as a big ball of issues with their product. This is what they had requested, and while my issue was finally handled in a good manner, they have pretty much ignored the other names on my list. I even faxed them this thread, and sent them a link via e-mail. I personally faxed everyone's contact info to my contact at Vortech and it seems that after I was up and running he dropped the ball so to speak on the issue. I just spoke to them on Friday again... not for my issues but to get a status on Fehran and Donovan's issues, and needless to say I was not very pleased. I have presented them with your info, but at this point I doubt they will reach out to you, even though that is what I was told when I embarked on this little mission in the first place...

I gotcha. Thanks for trying though. We appreciate it. I'm glad your problem is handled. Perhaps I'll ask you for your contact if/when mine gets real bad. Just out of curiousity have we narrowed down the problem? Ex. only those with 3.125" or smaller, all Vortechs made between date x and date y, etc.? Thanks again.

I think people with 3.25" pulley & smaller are experiencing issues with the SC kit. Then of course faulty installation can also play an important factor...which I believe is the case for Furbis112...
