new here want so ideals
I have a 87 maxima just setting.I have not started it in years.I want to build something to run with these Hondas. It is a ruff old maxima so makeing it into a all out racer is the plan.Gut the insides roll cage, racing seats, tint the windows so you can do see in it A sleeper. But here is the thing have no ideal about the motor and tram mods.I been drag racing for 15 years I know about carb V8 not V6 Fwd.Going to rebuild it.CV joints are shoot, tran has a hole or something because it has no fuild in it,Brake shoot. So as you can see I have my work cut out for me.I have been look a this site for about a week. So what are so thing I need to start look for the motor.Want to do this as cheap as I can so junkyard is my part store. Is 300zx part better,Intake,Cams,T-body ?Are they a better CV joint then stock?5 speed or auto?Iam lost so any help would be great. The car ran great so if you lose 500# of weight and do some upgrades to the motor it should be a hell cat.I just like the ideal of a 4 door car sleeper leaving you at a stop light.

Man that is the fun of this work on your car building your ideals. Not going out and buying someone elses ideal.I have nothing in this car so what will a good used one costs 1000 to 2000 dollars? So I can rebuild the motor for $366.00 mach work $150.00 trans rebuild for $225.00 CVjoints? paint 158.00 so ruffly a $1000.00.Now if i spend another $1000.00 on wheels and some upgrade I have a car that is like new and looks good for $2000.00.So that why I do not want to go buy someone elses junk for 1500.00 and then spend another $1000.00 geting it in to shape.
Hey, join the 2nd Gen Club here.

Lots of cheap but good upgrade modification/information.
While you're in the junkyard, p/u a T3 from a 87 300ZX or a T2.5 from 88-89 300ZX, p/u the ECU, turbo exhaust manifold, larger injectors from AutoZone, and prepare for a ECU upgrade from JWT, you can run 260~hp off pump. Read more at http://www.z31.com.
I'm building out a VG33 engine with turbo, going internal and all that. Transmission is getting some work too. Despite what SOME PEOPLE SAY, I am going to be doing this work. I'm a little indecisive since I'm running my 97 auto on turbo as well. PM or email nismo87se. He is hands-down the leading expert here on 2nd gen Maximas (I get all my cues and directions from him).
I love my 88. It's gonna be a *****in sleeper.

Hey Avalon42,
I joined the group and z31.com is a cool site too.All I want is to build something to get in the 9s and handels great looks good I well be happy.I do not know what motor I have 87 V6?I am just going to build it like I would any other motor 3 angle vavle job some porting to the heads and itake all the fuel I can run and a litte n.o.s.Lose all the weight I can.The only thing thats got me is the trans and cv joints how much well they handel? My car is a auto so that may hurt me. Where can I get a good looking air dam for the front ? What is the biggest wheels and tire that you can run? Your car looks good.

Depending on the mileage, you might want to try re-building your transmission, re-enforcing with some custom parts. You can upgrade the valve body to take some punishment, check out the SEARCH function and look up "Don+VB". If you really want to get a feel, crack open that tranny case and do some internal work. Make sure you wear gloves of some sort, you'll be pulling metal slivers out of your hand for months to come.
About the CV joints, I'm not sure. Mine haven't needed replacing, we'll find out when I drop in that engine. Talk about our chassis too, go to http://www.warpspeedperformance.com for subframe connector kit for ~$150. Ummm...did I miss anything? Oh yes, wear and tear. Performance and reliability don't go hand in hand. Things are bound to go bust when you're running +300hp.

Thanks for the help Avalon. When I said 9s that was the 1/8 mile.I have started to unhook every thing to pull the motor out they are a lot of wires.I doing it a diffrent way a guy told me to drop it all out of the bottom? What H.P will yours have and what all are you doing to it ? For the sub connect I have been building my own for mustangs so I may be able to come up with something. You can buy a 20 feet of that tubbing for 11.00 that will do a lot.Hey are you the only one here that is build up your maxima or does every one else thank I am nuts? Are you Avalon on the yahoo board too!I am ragleone.
Well, we do get a LOT of DISS from 3rd gen and above boys. They think that old school Maximas are junkers, some are surprised to learn that they are 6 cylinders. Especially when I pass them at 135mph stock.
For right now, it looks as though you and me are the only ones with plans and followthrough to build up our 2nd gens. There are a lot of people anticipating these build-ups, but so far, since no one has tested them reliably, not a lot of following has started. Also, it seems we are right at the cutoff for where all the cool toys (altezzas, clear sidemarkers, certain performance suspension). Everything now is basically 89 and up. Those of us who've owned our 2nd gens long have been scrambling all over the net to find performance or other forms of upgrades. The result is the 2nd Gen Yahoo club.
Yes, I'm avalon42 there as well. Also, btw, you can check out http://www.levelten.com for other proven tranmission upgrades.
