Any 2k2 that does NOT make timing-chain crunching noise at startup?

Everytime I start her up, and it's cold outside... I get the "crunching chain" noise. Synthentic oil has helped a little, but I still notice the noise.

Is there anybody out there living in a COLD climate, that does NOT hear this noise at startup?...

Trying to figure out if it's just a few 2k2 Maxes w/noise, or all of them...

Also, what kind of oil do you use? Brand & weight?

BTW: It doesn't make the noise when the weather is mild, or hot.

Thanks,
G

chain noise

I use to get that with my 95 Max but I thought the problem was fixed since then. My I30 does not get it. Are you saying the problem is back with some 2K2???

My 2k2 does it alot. I doesn't really have to be that cold. I'm running dino oil now but will switch to synth. I'll see if that helps. If not I'll go after the dealer to fix it. what is the fix for that?

I have build date 2/02. So far it's been in temps from between 30F and 85F, no noise so far. I do however know what noise you're talking about, my '98 Frontier used to to it almost consitently at startup after the engine had been sitting for more than a few hours. Even on hot (110+) degree days in AZ, it would do it. Nissan never saw it as a "problem".

Mine did it during the winter months. But I haven't heard it since around April all on whatever oil my dealer uses. I'm switching to synthetic after my free maintenance and oil changes to 30,000 expires and listen for the noise some more.

Well I guess we'll have to wait for the TSB to come out... Personally, I don't want the dealer "inside" my engine, unless it's absolutely necessary!

IMO Nissan will do nothing about this cold start noise unless over time evidence of timing chain failure surfaces. As far as I can tell all 3.5L V6's make the noise. The noise level is variable and it doesn't happen at every cold ( or warm ) start. I rarely hear it from the driver's seat. On my car you need to listen at the grill to hear the noise most of the time.

I've never heard it on my 9/01 build. It's got ~25,000 km on it now and I just started using Mobil 1 5,000 km ago. I live in Southern Ontario.
