Lots of Manganese in Oil?
Lots of Manganese in Oil?
I used to have some pretty bad problems with my engine, or really who knows what, getting limited at around 2.5k. Well, I've sent in two samples of my oil so far to BlackStone Labs, and just got the second report back in this mornings mail. Looks like again they are finding a significant amount of manganese in the oil. I think it's still within the range, but still pretty high, and higher in the allowed range than anything else they check. They said that some Canadian fuels and some greases usually add some manganese, but obviously I'm fueling up in Georgia. Anyone else ever get their oil tested? have a significant amount of manganese? or anyone know what this could be from?
hmmm
dunno about manganese, but I had 2x magnesium

I use exxon 93 gas, obviously I'm in the south like yourself..

I got the oil report yesterday from Blackstone and I am concerned about the Lead reading, I got 12 and the max. is 8. Now this is the summary:Your Nissan's engine appears to be wearing quite well at +100K Miles(kms). The universal averages
for typical wear from this type of engine are based on a 5300-mile (8400kms) oil change interval. Your oil was changed
after 6500 miles(kms) of service and wear metals sans lead read at or below those average levels. Lead is from
bearings (unless octane booster was used) and can come from city driving, hauling, or a particle streak
(random dirt wedged in and spun out of bearings). No harmful contamination was found. Watch oil pressure,
run ~5K miles, and resample to monitor.
** Now they made a mistake because my readings are in kilometers, so when they say miles the actual number is in KILOMETER, still the value for the lead is 12 ( max 8). No octane booster was used** any ideas where the lead is coming from and if my engine is in danger?? I use Mobil 1 synt. 10w30 change oil 6000 - 6500kms.

What are you worried about?
Your bearings will have some wear in them, it is excessive wear you have to worry about. Usually worn bearings (especially main bearings which surround your crankshaft) will also lower your oil pressure. Next time you are at your mechanic's, ask him to check the oil pressure to see if it is in spec.
