Price Drop?

Since the MAX is going to be made in TENN, will this effect the price
of models to come? Will it effect the quality? What do you guys/gals think?

If the Maxima follows what happened to the Honda Accord EX the quality of U.S. built Maximas should be superior to those built in Japan. In Honda's case both materials ( particularly interior ) and assembly-line technology are now superior in the U.S. I can tell by just glancing at a late model Accord EX if it was built in Japan. Poor worker morale in economically-depressed Japan doesn't help either. No reason to think that Nissan will turn out differently.

i for one know will never buy an american made bmw or benz or volvo even. not sure about the quality but i expect it to drop. after all the only reason they are moving the plant in tn is to reduce their total costs.

as far as price i think some people said maximas are expected to rise from the 2004 model onward.. personally i have no clue about this one.

Cost to rise (american workers cost more, produce less (have we become lazy and spoiled) and defects will rise. Look at the NEW Camry, nice car (weak power when compared to MAX) but defects/flaws up considerably! Produced in good OL USA in greater #'s with greater defects! I work in service for a dealer an see EVERY day. SOOOOOOOO many chk engine lights I think that we are working on GM's !
Give me Jap built vehicle ANY day, and I LOVE America!

one only has to look at the 2K2 Altima. fit and finish is in the toilet.....interior though designed with cheap cost cutting materials is awful with plastics not aligned, back seat trim pealing off sitting on the dealer lots.....guys better buy the last JAPaneese produced max in the 2K3......quick.

One has only to look at the success of BMW building all Z3(+), M, and X5 vehicles here in Upstate SC to show that American-made does not automatically mean poorer quality. It's all in the management and process engineering choices of the company that determines the output quality.

Agreed.

To answer the initial question, if anything the $540 destination charges may be slashed significantly.

I don't know man, my EX Coupe SUCKED!!! I didn't get the Honda warm and fuzzies that everyone always raves about. I could go on and on, but I digress.

I hear a few of you talk about interior material quality, but that has nothing to do with where it is assembled. The air in the US doesn't make the plastics harder or softer!! They are moving production here because the $$ to Yen ratio is always changing. They can more easily predict profit or loss when the car is built here and doesn't have to go through any sort of exchange rate or tariffs.
