Fitting 93 GXE steering wheel to 91. Anyone done that?? >>>>
Someone here (I think) mentioned that they had performed this retro-fit. I spoke with 3 different Nissan dealers. One said that the steering column itself is the same, but that's no guarantee, another said "anything is possible" and that it would be a risk so it's a good idea to visit a junkyard, and the other just had no friggin' clue.
So to the dude who once told me that he did it, did you need to do any weird mods to make it fit? What about part numbers? Just need to be sure I'm aiming for the right stuff because the wheel is going to cost me AUD$600 and the cruise control buttons will cost another AUD$250!!!!
AUD$850 is big money to blow on an uncertainty, so all input would be most appreciated.

What color wheel are you buying because I have one that I would sell you for a reasonable price. There is no since in getting ripped off. I have the cruise controll and all of the airbag crap if you need it.
92GXE, touring wing, 18” racing wheels, Port&Polished intake, custom intake, custom yellow interior, racing seats, back seats taken out and replaced with subs and amps, NOS kit, Suspension tech. Lowering springs, custom grille, soon to be custom painted and have the whole engine rebuilt for big shot NOS and custom SC and tranny converted to 5-speed.

I did a swap
well I changed my 89 gxe (which looks just like yours) to a 90 SE wheel. was a completly simple swap. I got the wheel for free. friend said I could have it since it was the only thing left in the superblack SE that was completly trashed. If your going for a 93 gxe that would have an airbag, which you couldnt use anyways so i dont see why you would want it (unless you like the looks) I would say go with a 89-91 se non airbag wheel. all you'll have to do is pop the cover off the wheels unbolt the 19mm bolt and plug in the cruise bottoms. horn works, cruise works, and it looks way nicer the the star trek wheel. anymore questions just ask

I'd rather get them new unless yours have no signs of wear and tear at all - that's why I'm replacing my old haggard 91GXE wheel.
But the most important thing to me is that it actually fits. I know Block's swap would work because they are the same wheel, but I'm talking about a wheel that could be completely different in the mounting and that's what I don't want to risk. I want to be sure I can fit this 93GXE wheel onto mine.
To Block - yes I am doing it just for the looks.
Larz,
If you don't get the airbag, there will be a huge freaking chunk missing out of the steering wheel.

Seriously thou, I've never had my wheel off so I have no idea but can't you relocate the cruise to the dash or console and install a momo or similiar?

I need to find an old crappy 93 wheel and try it out on Max before ordering. Time to go junkyard shopping I think.
So why dont you forget the 93 wheel with the bag and get a new 91 SE wheel. I think they look great. I put a black one in even though my old one was maroon and then i painted the column black too. looks really good. Airbags are expensive, around here 1000 bucks for one. if i were you I'd go 91 se, makes it a lot easier..
oh and if anyone wants to buy my 89 gxe wheel its laying around here

Because I don't like it! If I liked that one, I wouldn't be posting this thread dude.
But I prefer the 93GXE wheel. For some reason, it has a more elegant appeal (as opposed to the sporty look to the 91SE).

The MAX...your max is considered elegant? Any max with NOS is more sporty than elegant.
Anyways, just out of curiousity, about how many USD is $850AUD? I'm not familiar with austrailian currency. From the sounds of it $850 is quite a lot of $$$$.

Aside from the 3 chrome gauges I have sitting on my driver's side pillar, this car looks absolutely stock, and so the NOS has nothing to do with its appearance, until it's time to surprise someone 3#-)
Especially when you roadkill an Audi TT (after he has you almost beat down bottom end).
