Fuel Pressure Regulator?

How does this work? I have looked at it and I was wondering how it increases pressure? Also how much of an effect with one have. Can it work in conjunction with an APexi SAFC? Can someone explain?

on an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator, inlet pressure is controlled via a diaphram and spring which restricts fuel flow exiting the fpr. a screw on the exterior of the fpr adjusts the tension in the spring/diaphram. the more the flow is restricted, the higher the pressure on the inlet side of the fpr.

an fpr can work in conjunction with an s-afc because the afc alters the signal from the MAF sensor to the ECU. it tricks the ECU into thinking there's more or less air flow than there actually is and the ECU compensates by altering injector pulse width accordingly.
