Just want your opinions. I went to look and drive one today, and WOW. I do enjoy the ride though with my current Maxima.

Now if cost is a factor, that I can understand, however here anyways, a fully loaded GLE or SE or an AE 2001 Max, is within a few hundred dollars of the CL type S which varies 30 to 32K price range. Some of you guys seem to have better new car dealer pricing for Nissans though.

If it was for power, its 222-227 verse 260+ HP, lighter and faster Acura with 5spd shift tronic.

For space, yes a little more rear leg room but the trunk in the CL is nice, and the back seats are comfortable!

Build quality also seems to be way better on the Acura, interior and out. Interior is excellent, with in dash CD changer, and leather sport seats.

Ind, suspension with sway bars and 17” wheels all factory for a nice handling all the way around.

Would you recommend the new Maxima to me over this car?

Try it if you want, but....

After me and my buddies experience of chasing one up in the North Georgia mountains around the s-curve roads and watching the transmission blow before my eyes, I will pass. I know that it was one out of a bunch of CL-S's on the road and true enough anything can happen to a car at any time because their mechanical, but I'm stickin' with the car and the revolutionary V-6...that be Maxima... regardless of the horspower of the other manufacturer's product...I'm stubborn at times... but I'm DRIVEN.

In Canada the CL type S is about 6K more than the Maxima
AE (fully loaded, +leather, +meridian, etc ...).

The real differentiator for me is that the CL is an automatic. I don't care what they call it, it's an
automatic. I also don't agree that the quality is better.

I don't know where you are pricing the Max, but I ordered mine for $1 over invoice. It's a loaded 2k1 SE w/ leather, c & c package, meridian edition, bose, etc. for $28,300 including tax, tags, and title.

When I looked at the TL and CL-S this summer, the local Acura dealer would not discount the sticker price. The would only give me $500 off a demonstrator! What a rip off. TL's and CL's are very popular in the area of Maryland I live in and Acura knows it. No incentives, no discounts. I like the TL better (except the lack of interior space) than the Max, but I wasn't willing to pay 6 grand more than I paid for my car.

These are all good points, and like I said, I think the local Nissan dealers here are just RIP offs. For example, they still have a black fully loaoded 2000 Maxima with crome 17" wheels that they want over 33K for!

Price the same, the Acura seems to offer more

That sounds like the Anniversary Edition. Some Nissan dealers around here are marking those up. Regular SE's can be had for close to invoice however. (Thousands off list price)

You can get a well optioned SE for $24,000. A TL will cost you $30,000.

Where do the chrome style rims come from? Are they putting aftermarket rims on?

Two words, "four door". Maybe it's not a big deal for you, but with kids and an occasional customer lunch, I needed a four door. It's kind of a pain to get in the back seat of a two door, even if once you get in it has enough room. I also still like a real 5 spd manual over the "manumatic".

They are the factory 17Inch style, just cromed. Regardless, the regular 01 GLE and SE's are 29 to 31 grand at the dealers here.

The TL is the 4 door. The CL is the two door version of the TL. The seats move all the way forward and back to starting position electronicaly in the CL, making it pretty easy to get in and out, ive tried. Only thing is that, you have to wait for the people in the front to get out first which may take getting used to for 4 door people.
