I always did mine in 1st, the auto spins a bit faster in 1st than a 5 spd. At the races on Sunday I left it in Drive once and it shifted to second and it really creates white smoke. (my sig picture is the one and only burnout in 2nd.) From now on its second gear, doesn't take as long to heat em up because the tire speed is much faster. Don't bounce off the rev limited either. My .02

Remember that if you are referring to the track, radials get slicker when doing burnouts. Burnouts really should be done on slicks. You can do a small burnout to slightly heat up the tires if they are cold and to rub off crap off them. If you do a burnout everytime to the line, eventually your tires will get slicker not stickier. Again, I am only referring to radials. My .02.

My bad, I didn't even answer the question. I am an auto, so I am with Jime since I keep mine in gear and just roll on it. If you are a 5 spd, I don't know that you could go to 2nd and start it unless you rev and dump the clutch which would tend to lurch you forward and thereby losing your burnout stance. I'm just speculating though since I'm an auto.

Yeah I think burnouts should be left to people who's running slicks. I seen so many people who do burnouts on street tires at the track because it look cool and end up getting bad traction off the line. I think that was my problem too. I didn't do a huge burnout, but enough to probably get my street tires a bit too slick. I think that's why my times weren't that great because I was getting high 2.3x and 2.4 60ft. Each time my first run was usually my best because the tires weren't that slick yet. After that, it went downhill because I couldn't get traction at all. Next time, I think I'll try not to do any burnouts at all. Hopefully, I'll do better.

You are right burnouts should be left to slicks. I have a set of drag radials as well and they tell you to not heat them up too much. Just give em bit of a spin to clean the dirt off.

Is that how to 'give em bit of a spin'? Nice burnout!

Thanks. I hope to have some 15's with drag radials on before the summer gets over.
