I was manually shifting my automatic. I wonder is this bad on my transmission? Anyway, I got to 6500 and attempted to go to second gear but all I Heard for a few seconds was an attempt to switch to second. Itwent into neutral and made a rmm, rmm, and then finally switched gears to second? Any of you all know why that is?

Dear lord.. please tell me you were shifting from 1st, and not from D !!!

Besides, I am assuming thats why they sell Manual Maximas.., so that people can MANUALLY shift them...

I personally have a max, and have never used 1st (manually), and used 2nd (manually), only once (while driving up a mountain in NY during the break in period).. Occasionally, I hit the O/D disable button when I reuquire a quick start... Other than that, I would recommend against shifting manually on an automatic.. cuz it just doesn't seem kosher..

Is there any other little secrets to making an Auto take off faster. Why does disabling overdrive make it go faser?

Toruque braking is the best method for taking off. Hold the brake and gas up to 1500 rpm. Let go of the brake and mash the gas. Do not hold the gas and brake for more than a second or 2 though. This will generate a lot of heat in your torque converter. Disabling OD will not change any gear ratios or hold gears longer. It simply prevents the transmission from shifting into 4th gear.

Torque braking will also warp your rotors...

That sound is the rev limiter. I've done that quite a few times, mostly in racing.
