All GXEs are Automatic?
All GXEs are VG equiped?
89-91SEs are 5spd and auto?
92-94 SEs are VTC failure prone?
What other Problems do we MAXers have?
Is Exhaust stud replacement unavoidable?
DO all Autos Die?
Trying to talk friend into a MAXIMA. And Other than my own experience and what I read here. It seems that we have very little problems. I also stated to him that milage was not an issue with our cars. Considering the Economic base that the original owners of MAXIMAs had. I explained that most 3rd Gen original owners were of the adult persuassion, and have passd them down to us or we purchased them from those types of owners. Middle class owners with disposable incomes of 30-40k per annual. So Having wealthier preowners made buying a 3rd Gen a good buy, because those owners had the money to do regular service. Not tomention the overall condition I see our MAximas in. Very good indeed. But he still is not bitting. What can I say or do to persuade him? He gets a test drive in mine next week. That is a definate teaser. Price on mods and overall factory and aftermarket support is good. What else?

You can tell him how to make a maxima a sleeper. Get the sway bars, lowering springs, etc. And get the engine mods, but have no stickers, ground effects, rims, etc. Then tel him to get someone to race him. He'll beat the pants off them (as long as it's not a S2000, Porsche, Ferrari, Etc,)

The best bet for a used Maxima is to be the second owner of a GXE that was owned by an older driver (there are a lot in NY in their 50's & 60's. They were never beat on so the trannys are fine (just about all autos though). Also the motor mounts will still be good. This is important, because I think the excessive rocking of the engine, with bad mounts, puts a big strain on the exhaust studs causing them to break. Get a well maintained, easily driven, GXE and all you'll have to do is replace the struts to have a good, solid, reliable car.
I'm pretty sure that GXE's can have 5-speeds also. Just wanted to add that.

Lowering springs, custom grille, soon to be custom painted and have the whole engine rebuilt for big shot NOS and custom SC and tranny converted to 5-speed.
