For all 2k2 6 Speed owners with hesitation.....we are getting somewhere!!!

I just got back from the dealer. I told them about the problem, they were able to see the problem as well (we all know what a head ache that can be) but said no codes were thrown when it happened to them (they carry a small hand held computer). The tech called the Nissan Tech line and talked to them for about a half an hour. The tech line people have said they have had many complaints about it, but no one has been able to see it for themselves. She said mine is the first case that an official (i.e. Nissan tech) has actually felt. I now have an open ticket with Nissan tech and apparently they are working the issue.

Just wanted to let you all know that there is something being done and they aren't just blowing me off. I took the ticket number and everything so I will follow up with them in about a week. The people at Tischer Nissan in Laurel, Md. seem very sincere (sp) so I believe that they actually mean what they are saying and not blowing smoke up my a$$.

Not to short you, but do a search on the forums. Just search for hesitation and 2k2. There are deep desciptions there. I wrote one myself. In short though it feels like the hesitation involved in an automatic when you step down on the gas and the torque converter unlocks.

y2kse posted this, asking if someone documented the hesitation... now that swallac2 got a ticket opened, has there been an update?

y2kse? You had the contact person... anything?

thanks,

All righty, boys and girls. We have Nissan's attention. What I need to know is whether anyone has had this condition documented by their dealer. If not, someone needs to be willing to take their vehicle to a dealer and have the condition documented. At that point, I'm fairly confident we can get a Zone Rep from NNA to look at the vehicle.

Somebody talk to me . . .

I posted earlier that Nissan service verified this problem in my car, they talked to the Nissan tech line but since they found engine in spec, and no fault codes could not do anything further. This was Stevens Creek Nissan San Jose, CA

i have the hesitation sometimes too, it's weird but annoying.

now I remember!

they built-in that hesitation so the previous gen Max might have a chance... kinda like a staggered start. Too bad we win anyway.

swallac2, can you update monday after talking with the dealer? Thanks.

THANKS

for keeping the topic open...as more and more owners of 2k2 begin to realize this is not a fluke thing and that it happens with regularity, Nissan will have to take notice. It is NOT acceptable and I don't buy the line that the drive by wire (if responsible) is an advancement in technology if this is one of the trade-offs. Give me by cable linkage any day over this! Flaws an otherwise flawless car.

I'm not sure if what I'm feeling is the same thing...but if it is, I felt it in the 3.5 Alty I test drove before I bought my car as well. I think it's the VQ engine...not just the max.
See if the pathfinders are having similar problems.

it's prolly something with teh software in the drive by wire, not the engine itself.

hey u guys, the hesitation u are describing is one of the only things i hate about driving my brother (smokin odum's) 2k2 Maxima. It is annoying, and at first I thought it was due to the drive by wire system.

However, I bought a 2k2 SpecV which is also drive by wire, but dont experience the same problems. In fact, the throttle response on my SpecV is very crisp and responsive.

I think it may be some kind of software deal in the Maximas ECUs.

Glad to know I'm not imagining things.

I've experience this too since owning my maxima for less than a month. I've experience in 3rd gear mostly but sometimes 4th but never 5th or 6th yet that I can remember.

I love my Max though. Best bang for "my" buck anyway. BTW, from reading earlier up in this thread...didn't know there was a rivalry(?) between 2K/2K1 and 2K2 Maximas.

I've yet to meet another Maxima modded or otherwise that tried to take me and everytime I see one I'm never inclined to try and take either.

My only problem with my Max really is trying to open her up on the hiway at appropriate times and enjoy the smooth acceleration and torque without picking up someone way back in the rear who wants to come up and get some only to have him run into traffic and use cars as a barrier for the getaway. That's weak and lame. And thats the reason why I ignore 98.9% percent of those trying to run up on my rear or do a flyby...it isn't worth it.

I'll have to keep my eye on the hesitation thing. Didn't know it was a wide spread "problem". I too thought is was a drive by wire thing.

If it is a rivalry, it is a friendly one.

I agree. I also have a 2k2 Spec V and have NOT experienced the hesitation in it. As you say, the acceleration in it is very crisp and responsive. It has to be something else going on in the Max. I'm convinced of it.

I may have a FIX!

I had the hesitation in my 03 3.5 altima also. I did some research and the 02-03's has sensitive knock sensors. After just an intake mod it would retard timing because of vibrations. I relocated and regrounded the KS. Problem Solved. I never had a hesitation since.
