lights on my daskboard wont go away!

my "brake" and "battery" lights just turned on simultaneously last night on my dash board. I checked my brake fluid and it was full. My car is starting up just fine and i blast my music.........no problems ......the two lights turned on while i was driving(headlights and radio were on) if that helps - does anyone know what this means?

You lost your alternator belt. If you don't get it fixed your car is doomed!!!!

Seriously, your belt broke. Your battery will die shortly if you don't get it fixed.

yeah -i found out the hard way last night unfortunately

- i was driving my car out of the parking lot and it just turned off. no juice left at all - not even enough to open the doors with remote. i had someone help me push it to the garage (which was like 20 feet away) and i charged the battery for about 20 minutes - but i didnt drive it back home because the headlights wood have drained the battery quick - piked it up in da morning and dropped it off......... 350 for a new alternator

Why are you getting a new alternator if the belt just broke?

They all break belts?

Ask them how the broken belt indicates a dead alternator. I dont see the connection.

My guess is the alternator froze and then the belt broke. Hence the need for a new alternator and belt.

I doubt it. But try to spin the pulley on the alternator by hand. If you can, and it's fairly smooth and no noticeable play then it's probably fine.

The reason they want to change your alternator rather than the $20 belt isn't a "Nissan-thing". It's a "Rape-you" thing....

the belt was still in place - but it wasnt moving - the dealer asked for about 600 bucks to replace it - i dropped it off at the bridgestone tire distributor - they usually dont screw around (my dad knew him for a long time)
