REDLINE Tranny Fluid
REDLINE Tranny Fluid
I just recently bought a 2k2 6spd. and I have heard about the RedLine Tranny Fluid, How much does it cost? What do I have to do to put it in(drain the stock tranny fluid?)
Will the dealer notice I changed the tranny fluid?
Will they start annoying me about it?

www.MyOilShop.com carries Redline MT90 for about $7.00 a quart. The 6 speed needs about 2.5 quarts I think (double check that).
Here's a write up on how to change the fluid

Do not change your tranny oil until 12,000 km or 8,000 miles. Amsoil is very good but you must use oil for limited slip diff

Why would you have to wait until 8k miles before changing the tranny fluid? I changed mine at a little over 2k miles and have not had an issue nor have I seen anything that would indicate that there would be a problem with changing right away. Please explain.

Go with the MTL, it fully synthetic oil and you will feel the difference. In my old Civic when I changed over to Redline I was like "whoa feels nice!"
You should keep your original fluid in there for at least 5k. You need the natural oil in there to let everything seat properly first. Synthetic is not good for new parts because it's too slick to allow everything to seat nicely. So in the case of breaking things in, dino oil is better.
Cheers,
Bryan

Because if you have a tranny with lsd, you will have to use a lsd oil. In my 2k max , I used redline which was terrific especially up here in Canada for winter. Now I have a 2k2 with lsd, I will use amsoil after 12K as the dealer recommended as well as my amsoil rep. My friends that race uses amsoil and it is a better oil than redline. Actually they have switched from redline to amsoil for the past 10 years.

As for using a LSD oil, this only needs to be used if your replacing the diff oil and Nissan recommends a different grade oil for that application. I don't know whether or not the tranny fluid is shared with the LSD, my suspicion is no, but as long as you follow what Nissan recommends, I don't see how it would matter anyhow.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the Redline fluid meets and exceeds what Nissan recommends and therefore should not pose any problems.

I agree that there is no reason to wait to use a full synthetic manual transmission lube such as Redline. And I would also point out that the Owner Manual specifies that you use API GL-4, Viscosity SAE 75W-90 only. That would equate to Redline MT-90, NOT Redline MTL.

I still don't see why you need to wait. I don't want to get into an argument, butI have yet to see any supporting facts to draw one to this conclusion. I did see that someone said something about the seals, but where is the evidence. This seems a lot like the argument that you should use dino oil in your engine for some x number of miles. Many people believe that to be a myth, including myself. There is a reason why Nissan recommends a certain grade oil and the Redline fluid meets that spec, which to me indicates that it does everything that Nissan recommends that it do. I see no problem.

Second, the reason for waiting to change the trans oil is that the transaxle has a long break-in and will shift much better when the break-in is done. Synthetic oil is more slippery (this is the reason to put it in) and will make the break-in take much longer. Putting synthetic in the trans too early won't do any damage, it just takes longer to get to the nicest shifting.
