Maxima 2002 6 spd
Maxima 2002 6 spd
Just bought my Maxima 2002 with the 6 spd transmission. I really regret it because I should have have waited a while for the car to work out all its bugs. This is the first time this particular model comes out. My suspicion came true when I noticed that about 25 % of the time, there is a miss/hesitation when I tried to accelerate. I was just running at around 2 to 3000 rpm. The dealer said it was because I reved passed the red line, which I did not. Standard Nissan resospnse to new car owner complain. (I said this because 19 yrs ago, I bought a 280zx turbo with similar prob--but they denied it). With the Internet as my resource this time, I like to know if anyone who has this similar problem. I realized this car just came out. I appreciate your comments.
Maybe you're not used to the new fly by wire system. I drove a friend's 2K2 6 speed, and compared to mine, I noticed an odd dis-connect with the throttle. It didn't feel as directly connected to the engine as my old technology throttle cable. Another oddity, when you drive it hard, when changing gears fast, the rpms just stay up there, as if the throttle is stuck. I've learned that the car does that on purpose to burn off emissions. Price you pay for being on the leading edge, often referred to as the bleeding edge

I have a 6 speed and when I punch it I think it's leaping forward like a big cat. The throttle response it terrific. Is it possible you're not downshifting and just causing the engine to bog? If not take it to another dealer for a second opinion.
Re: Maxima 2002 6 spd
Actually, quite a few people here have had the 2002 for a while, and it's had some bugs, but I don't know of any that the dealer won't fix.
If you can duplicate this hesitation, then there is NO reason that they shouldn't fix it. (Assuming you didn't shift into the wrong gear going too fast and they have some way of proving it) The burden of proof is on them; if they deny warranty work they need to show you proof of your neglignce. If you have trouble just go to a different dealer. If that doesn't work call Nissan North America.

Re: Maxima 2002 6 spd (hesitation problem)
I noticed the same hesitation in my 6-speed, but thought it is something that would go away after the break-in period. I've only got ~500 miles on my '02 SE. How many miles are on yours, and does the problem still occur?
Anyone out there have this problem fixed by their dealer? If so, could you please post your dealship's assessment of the problem and the remedy so I can accurately describe it to my dealer? (I want to use dealer-speak with them so they don't try and pull a, "I have no idea what you're talking about...")
Thanks.
