OEM spring isolation wrap question??? Those who have done this please look.
I started a thread a few months ago and got some great replies. I thought I had everything down for my upcoming install of my agx, agx dustboots and eibachs. I opted to not replace any other parts. My plan is to buy new oem isolation sleeves as opposed to the spring wrap.
now I knew there are some part number differences with the 95-96 and 97-99 so i thought I was prepared. Apparently the 95-96 only has one wrap per front spring and one wrap per rear spring for a grand total of 4. now the 97-99 uses three wraps per front spring and one per rear spring so there's a grand total of 8.
I drive a 95 SE.....but I'm planning to go ahead and buy eight wraps like on the 97-99. So the question is.....is that what you did???? Do you think that sounds right???

Using silicone spray and elbow grease just slip a length on there enough to cover the first 2-3 coils or so(past where the first coil rests in the rubber seat). Install spring and you're done.
Works great. Someone else on here thought of it.
Oh, and get the freakin front strut bearings. It's cheap insurance.

point taken on the hd thing although i still prefer the oem sleeves.
Now I still can't find a good reason to change the strut bearing. I've asked a few mechanic friends that work strictly on japanese imports and they all say there is no reason to change the strut bearing for everyday driving. even everyday aggressive street driving. but I'm definitely open to what you guys think. what do you think??

Just go ahead and change the strut bearing...if this is the last time your going to touch the suspension I would go ahead and change it..its a bit of security that you wont get any unwanted sounds when you lower your car off the jack stands...
As for the isolator sleevs..I have to go the nissan and order mine soon as well.>I heard there are three for the front but I dont know...I will order three cause Tom told me to
and Tom is scary

My mother told me I was a nice guy
Perhaps Nissan up'd the qty. of isolation sleves to quiet the suspension down a bit. But who knows. They are expensive at 12-15 bucks a piece. That idea of the hose slipped onto the spring sounds good too. I just like keeping everything as close to OEM as possible. Even with OEM sleves, my B&G's make noise in the morning, but by mid day or after a drive down the highway, everything is nice and quiet.
As far as the strut bearing goes. It's a 20 dollar part, if it fails you have to take the whole suspension apart to get to it. I say change that baby while you've got it all apart. It's a cheap plastic bearing, it's subject to lots of road grim, salt, sand, bla bla bla and the grease in it dries up over time.
I'm scary huh? I still don't get that one. Could be my big muscular body that makes me appear scary, but I'm a softy at heart. This is sounding way to OT. I'm going go polish my car now and think about why I'm a scary guy and what I can do to not be a scary guy.
I'm rambling aren't I??? OK I'm finished.

He's a smart guy, and he knows what he's talking about. The coil wrap only needs to be done on the bottom/top coils anyway, so it's no big deal. You can get it (1/2") at Radio Shack, Home Depot, or Lowes...probably other places as well. I should buy a stockload of it and start selling it to ORG members LOL. Someone already asked me to buy them some.
Anyway, Tom isn't scary. He's very nice, and he's pretty cute too (I'm a girl, so I can say these things).
strut bearings
First off lots of thanks to njmaxseltd and lime for their input to the spring noise issues. I am now thinking that I will change the strut bearing too. my only question is.....where in this forum is there info about people needing to change strut bearings. It seems like one person did it and recommended it because it's a pain in the @55 to change it if you need to later.....I've never heard of anyone needing to change it.?..? Thanks for the help.

Anyway, I have really small hands (really good when changing Knock Sensors! Tom's car looks hot with the B&G's though.
