K&N intake without tubing
K&N intake without tubing
A few months ago I bought a k&n cone intake off of ebay. I could never put it on because my 96 Max was stolen, but i just got it back and wanted to put it on. It came with the adapter piece and screws. I was wondering if i could just remove the stock airbox and just bolt this one on to the factory tubing. I have read about other people doing something similar to this and messing up the ECU codes. If i do this simple mod will I harm anything??
No, you wont mess anything up. (Unplug the plug to the little computer box on the tubbing)Unscrew the 4 bolts on the Factory Air Box, and Remove the top half, then unscrew the bottem 3 bolts and remove the bottem half of the box. Then with the adaptor, bolt it on with your factory bolts (or bolts provided) and connect the Intake, make sure its all tight, but not really over tightened. Plug the Port back into the little computer box and Wa LA! Your K&N is installed. Shut that hood, take it for a spin. GUN THAT SOME BI*TCH and Listen to the sound of The Max's POWER!

Thanks for giving me a how to on this man, i really appreciate. I have been debating on wether or not to put the filter on cause I didn't want to screw my engine up. I am really glad that I signed up to the ORG today. Ya'll be cool.
Maxima 504. I'm frm the N.O. too. Nice to see someone local on the boards. Cumalot and Jay 25 are also from New Orleans. I'm currently doing a summer internship in Dallas till August. I had your same setup till today. I just switched to the Frankencar intake. All I did was buy the midpipe that replaces that stock black tubing. The result: awesome sound, low and high end power. I'm not that mechanically inclined but was able to do it in about 45 mintues. Your current setup will give you power on the high end but you will lose some power on the low end (acceleration). Don't sweat it, though. I'm not trying to pressure you into getting the midpipe, but it's a cheap mod to consider down the line. It cost me $55 total. Welcome to the boards!
