Reason for Recall
Some 2002 model year Nissan Maxima vehicles contain odometers that are recording the distance traveled in kilometers instead of miles. As a result, the current odometer reading on these vehicles indicate a higher number than the actual miles traveled. To correct this condition, Nissan has initiated a Voluntary Service Campaign to replace the odometer with one showing the correct mileage.
What Nissan Will Do
Nissan will determine if your odometer is reading accurately in miles. This free inspection should take about one hour to complete. However, your dealer may require your Maxima for a longer period depending on his/her work schedule. If your odometer is recording the distance traveled in kilometers instead of miles, your odometer will be replaced with one that records the distance traveled in miles. Since your Nissan dealer is unable to re-calibrate the odometer, a replacement odometer must be ordered from Nissan and this will require that your vehicle be kept overnight at the dealership. If this is the case, your dealer can arrange alternate transportation for you until the replacement odometer is installed. If it is necessary to replace your odometer, the replacement odometer will display a lower number than the current reading. The replacement odometer will be accurately recalibrated in accordance with Federal law, and will reflect the correct vehicle mileage in miles.
What You Should Do
Contact your Nissan dealer and schedule an appointment to have your vehicle inspected. Even if you have not noticed a difference in your mileage, Nissan strongly recommends that you schedule an appointment and have this free of charge inspection and repair, if necessary, performed. Please bring this notice with you to your service appointment.
If the dealer fails, or is unable to make the necessary repairs free of charge, you may contact the National Consumer Affairs Office, Nissan North America, Inc. at P.O. Box 191, Gardena, California 90248-0191. The toll free number is 1-800-NISSAN1 (1-800-647-7261). If you reside in Hawaii, please call 1-808-836-0888.

2002 Maxima Accelerator Pedal Stop
Applies to 2002 Maxima (A33), the following Vehicle Identification Number Range:
JN1DA31**2T 000011 to 001804
JN1DA31**2T 200011 to 204465
JN1DA31**2T 300014 to 308328
JN1DA31**2T 400011 to 419097.
The number of vehicles potentially affected is approximately 30,592.
Please review the disclaimer located at the bottom of this page for more instruction.
Reason for Recall
Your vehicle is equipped with an electronic throttle control system. Under usual driving conditions, the stopper for the accelerator pedal will prevent excessive movement of the accelerator position sensor. However, if the driver pushes the pedal to the stopper with overly excessive force while at the same time pushing it to the right, the pedal may "over travel" due to the design of the stopper. This could cause the engine malfunction indicator lamp to come on and the engine speed to be severely limited. If this occurs unexpectedly, it could lead to a crash.
What Nissan Will Do
In order to prevent this incident from occurring, your Nissan dealer will replace the accelerator pedal stopper with a new one. This free service should take about thirty minutes to complete, but your Nissan dealer may require your vehicle for a longer period of time based upon their work schedule.
What You Should Do
As a precaution until a new pedal stopper is installed, do not forcefully push the accelerator pedal all the way down to the stopper. Contact your Nissan dealer at your earliest convenience in order to arrange an appointment to have your vehicle repaired. Please bring this notice with you when you keep your service appointment. Instructions have been sent to your Nissan dealer.

What on earth are you talking about man? I was commenting that we have 3 recalls, whereas on the Nissan site the 01 and 00 Maxs have none. Yes, I know about the Altima airbag deal. And YES of course I want to be notified about recalls. What are you commenting on? Seriously!

I said there are no recalls listed. The control arm one isn't listed either, and it exists. My point was that I have had to bring in my Max twice now for recall work and I've only had it a month. Not so good.
