Installed Frankencar midpipe, it rocks!

I have one question though. When I installed the JWT popcharger awhile back I don't remember it saying to take off a gold bracket. The bracket is on the shock tower and holds a wire loom with the maf sensor and something else thats plastic, black and round with a tube coming out of it. What is that and do I need that bracket? I don't see it on anybody's pictures. I have a 2k1. I wish I had a digital camera to take a picture!

A problem I had installing was trying to get the intake bracket to fit on the maf adapter and the tower. If I leave the intake without it mounted could that do any damage.

Try rotating the MAF tube and the bracket should fit fine.

I don't have any pictures, but 'kloodgy' has some good ones on his site of his intake and how the bracket is mounted.
Also ask Steve from FrankenCar, he should be able to give you some pictured to look at.
I had problem gettig the bracket to fit too, but after looking at pictures it was pretty easy fit.

I think braket is needed cause you will reduce the shacking and fibration of the filter and the MAF.

Um, yeah. DO NOT install the Frankencar without that bracket. You need it.

The bracket that came with is too short. I have the other one that came with the popcharger but I couldn't get a good angle with it. I guess I'll just have to play with it more.

you have to tilt the MAF so the bracket will fit. i assure you it will fit. i 'll look for a pic i have one somewhere. they are all the same size and you just have to angle the MAF.

The wider popcharger filter makes it need a longer bracket cause I did tilt it. Like I said though I'll have to keep trying.

I had to bend my bracket a wee bit, but it worked. Pic below.

judging from your pic it looks like you have the bracket on technically backwards, it's engineered to fit better with teh bend on the other side of the bracket. oh well, whatever works.

I couldn't even get the damn thing to come close the other way. I did try it with the bend facing out first. Maybe I was aiming for the wrong hole or something..........

Steve (or others who can help)

I just installed Frankencar, and I love it. However, the mounting bracket I feel is insufficient in preventing vibration in the intake. Can you design, or can anyone come up with ideas to improve the mounting? It's fine while driving but upon startup or shutdown of the engine, it wobbles like crazy, makes me nervous due to the MAF issue.

On a side note, when my car shuts down, the engine makes some odd clicking noises, can't really explain it. Anyone else have this? Thanks in advance for all your guys' advice.

My car ticks for like an hour and a half. I think it's coming from the Y Pipe.

You could probably fabricate one yourself by mounting the Berk one backwards? I haven't looked at it yet, but I just thought of that.....

I thought of that, perhaps tomorrow. ASU you agree though yeah? It's not enough of a solid bracket. I'll see what I can do.

My car makes noises also but it's not like asu174 said. It's definitely not cooling in the exhaust it's more like an electric motor running for a moment and some parts moving. If you turn the key to ACC with out starting the car it does the same thing and will do so as many times as you turn the key back and forth. My 1st thought is it's something in the ABS system but since it seem to be more noticeable now that the Frank is on it may be in the manifold. I've been meaning to have someone turn the key while I'm under the hood but I haven't had a chance to yet.

Actually, the Frankencar one is as solid as hell. We had to modify it a wee bit to fit, but that thing ain't going nowhere.

Throw it or the Berk in a vice though and see what you can come up with. I think you have enough resources there. Who knows? maybe you can use both with the right amount of creativity..

I just Installed this week.

I ordered mine on 6/20 in the evening and received it on 6/24 and I wasn't missing anything. Good service and low price. Although when I looked at the pipe there was a small hole in the weld around the breather. I'm still waiting for the replacement Steve
I JB Welded the hole on Mon. and installed it on Tue.

My only concern is two part.

1st the length of the pipe. On my car as installed, without bending the bracket, it is in contact with the both the edge of the TB and MAF. As I'm planing to swap it out I left it as is for the time being.

2nd it looks like he's using a tubing cutter to cut the pipe. At 1st thought this is a good choice as it makes a nice 90deg. burr free cut. This tends to bend the edges of the pipe inward. While this makes it easier to get the hose couplers on it also changes the airflow coming out of the MAF.
Granted this is very minor at best it's just my perfectionist mind at work. But as I may need to shorten the pipe some to at least stop the contact with the edge of the TB I thought I'd mention it.

Now I must say I love the sound!Nice and quiet while normal driving. And when you punch it... Wow. I love it.

Keep me up to date via email Steve with what you come up with as far as cold air piping. I'm gonna look at some HVAC stuff and scour the junkyard soon for an air dam I'll let you know what I come up with.

When I was modding the amber bulbs to run stealth, I had to check the lights to make sure they were running correct. Well, everytime I shut the car down, it would "tick" for about 10 seconds. I believe, maybe wrong, but the ticking is coming from the front left side near the fuse box. I think it is transferring the energy source from the alternator to the battery to power the interior lights and head lights until the door opens that causes the ticking noise.
