Water Pump problems need to replace

Hey everyone, well my car overheated the other day out of nowhere, found out that the water pump had gone bad and caused the radiatro coolant to leak. So, I got the new water pump, but thats not my problem, as you all probably know, the labor for putting in the pump is so much more than the water pump itself. My mechanic told me about $400 for the labor, since they have to practically do so much work. Is this a right amount? How much does it usually cost, I'd do it myself, but then again I'm not stupid, so I have no idea what to do. I get my water pump tomorrow, but dont' see it going in my car for a while. Any ideas ?
