Tinted Windshield

For those of you with tinted windshields....how do you go about removing the inspection sticker every year WITHOUT scratching the tint? I mean, isnt it impossible to take the sticker off without scratching it even a little bit??? Retinting the window every year doesnt make any sense, either....so please...advise me of this. Thanks!

Good question...

I would assume (yeah I know the danger in that) that not all states have windshield stickers...some might still use the small tags that go in the corners of the plates themselves...

when it is tinted, have an area cut out (no tint in the spot where the sticker goes) so that way they can:
a) see the damn inspection sticker
b) remove it and reapply when necessary

hope this helps!

Why in Gods name did you stick it on there to begin with?

Why not put a clear plastic over it and then use a small piece of tape and put it on there that way?

First off with tinted windows, they cant really see the tape and what not, I wouldve never stick it on a tinted window. Just my opinion.

Sure...you could have a small area without tint on it for the inspection station to actually put the sticker on and take it off, but come on now...how many inspection stations do THAT neat of a job? DEFINTATELY NONE in my area (Central MA).

Yeah, and those new MA inspection stickers are huge! My 626 still has one on it. I left MA just after they switched to the big ones. Still have all my North End neighborhood stickers on the back window too. What is it with us in Boston, always leaving all our neighborhood stickers on the window to show our tenure?

If you hang out during the inspection, just tell the guy to let you put the sticker on.

Clear tint?

Do you guys have clear tint on your winshield?

I have been thinking about putting this on my Max and Pathfinder and am interested in others experience with it.

How is the visual clarity? Can you see through it fine?

Thanks!

Since when?

Since when did they legalize windshield tinting???

The only type I know of putting some type of tint on the windshield is a "brow" on the upper 3/4 of the windshield, and that has to be around 5-6" or so...at least in Texas.

not legal but

The clear tint is not legal in Arizona but a local guy says he is willing to do it.

He has gotten pulled over and the cops can't tell.

Mine's tinted at 35% and I LOVE it. Never had a problem with it either. Probably because the guy I got it done for says that he has tinted over 50 Metro police officers personal cars. Plus it is hot as Hades here. I made the mistake of putting a sticker for work on the tint and it took me 2 hours to get it off. First I pulled all of the sticker off by hand (and nail) and was left with glue residue. From there I got a spray bottle with water and soap and soaked the section and would remove some glue. Repeated this for over an hour and finally it is gone. Don't EVER stick anything on the tint if you want to be happy.

it's illegal

In VA and, I'm sure the other 49 states, tinting the front window at any % is illegal; I talked to the guy where I got my tint done about it and he said if you want the "clear tint" (it's called a UV shield) that deflects 99% of UV, you have to have a notice from a MD. If I were you, I would just use a sun shade; it will is to deflect waaaaay more heat than a UV shield.

it's about 900 degrees and 99% humidity here in DC

staaaaaaaay cool

Couple of things...

1. legality ----> http://www.supertint.com/IWFA_Tintlaws_USA.htm

2. heat ----> oh, please! try southern Texas where it is over 90 for months on end and nice and moist in the air, but no rain so everything browns to a lovely 'death shade'....that, my friends, is HOT. Not just a couple days here and there!!

Even when it does rain, it is so hot, it just evaporates the rain into the air making for and even moer muggy experience....with no drop in temp.

My salute to other Southern stater's!

Clear tint in Arizona

How about 110+ for weeks (months) on end here in Arizona?

I want the clear tint to keep the car cool when I am driving on the road.

I always use a window shade when parked but driving can get pretty toasty with the wicked orb blaring down through the windshield.

Exactly why I saluted others down here...you have the raw heat, we have the a fairly high base heat with humidity, FL has not such a high raw heat, but even more humidity than here (I lived there for 5 years)...we are talking 'cut with a machete' time!
