2002 owners, have you called 1-800-NISSAN1 to complain?

there has been a lot of talk about 2002 owners getting bag gas mileage and i was wondering if anyone has called 1-800-NISSAN1 to complain. i just called and the rep insisted that I was the first one to call about that.

i also asked her if anyone else has called about their 6-speed transmission and with shifter problems and she said no one has called about that either.

i know i am not the only 2002 who is getting sub-par gas mileage and i know i am not the only 2002 whose shifter gives him trouble when going into certain gears. mainly 1st and 3rd for me specfically. 3rd is the worst and i know others have a similar problem.

has anyone else talked to nissan about these problems?

On average how many miles you get per tank?

I get 345-360 miles per tank. About the same as I had in my 2000 SE auto

anyone else?

Right now my gas mileage is $hitty. But I account it to 2 things.

1. My Max only has 700 miles on it
2. I've been doing a lot of local driving and idling (trying to figure out the Nav )

Last fill up I got about 300 miles on 15.8 gallons

OT- I have a 2000, but I barely break 300 per fillup. I rev the $hit out of my engine though. LOVE that exhaust.

my last 2 tanks have been 275 miles on 15.8 gallons and the one before that was 247 miles on 14.7 gallons (though, i was at the drag strip with the second tank) 18.6 and 16.8 MPG repectively. i never get above 19 MPG with my regular city type driving. my 96 always got at least 20.5 MPG. maybe its not as bad as i think but i still feel like i should be getting more.

I am in the $hitty gas mileage club also. I now have almost 5000 miles on her, but I have still yet to break 20 mpg. I have been saving all of my gas receipts and recording the mileage on each of them, I am going to give it 1K more, and then back to the dealer I go.

My 2002 SE 6 speed has over 5500 miles on it. I got the best mileage to date on my last tank: 24 mpg. I did to a lot of highway driving (around 80% highway 20% street). My mpg range is usually between 21 mpg and 23 mpg.

My 2002 auto is getting about the same mileage (21-ish) as my 2000 stick (21.5 best ever) on 93 octane. Driving moderately aggressively but not hard.

I was really hoping the 2002 was going to be better than the 2000. My 93 SE stick gave me 27-28 highway, 23 overall. WTF?

I've been getting about 21 mpg in the city which is exactly what the 6 spd is rated. And I floor the pedal on a regular basis.

I average about 24 mpg in mixed city/highway...my max has 3500 miles, my shifter has done better with some miles put on the car....3rd gear was a little stiff but isnt really noticeable now....

not THAT often. i might rev it all the way up to redline once or twice per tank (im still trying to practice my shifting) ive varied by shifting at about 3500 RPMs and then changing by trying to shift at about 2500 RPMs and it seems to make no difference. ill even put it in 6th while im on a 35 MPH road and cruise at about 1700 RPMs and it doesnt help the MPG at all.

if i were getting about 20 or 21 i wouldnt care since that is what the car is rated at but im getting 18 and 19. i dont even reach 300 miles before i have to fill up.

maybe its just the way i drive stick. this is my first manual car ever so i dont know whats optimal and whats not. maybe im just doing something while im driving normally that is slowly eating a little bit of gas each time i do it.

My gas mileage typically matches the EPA numbers that were posted on the car when I bought it, and I drive pretty hard. I have never had a problem getting into gear, either. I guess this is not the response you were looking for, but I don't have any such problems with my 2K2.

The only thing I've really noticed is the hesitation during sudden acceleration--now that's something people need to be complaining about.

I have a 2k2 auto. Depending on my driving style i've managed to get as low as 16mpg (constant hard acceleration) and as high as 25mpg (100% highway). This is calculated the "old" way. My trip computer just keeps displaying 20mpg no matter what i do.

In short, no problems here.

Yes...my girl called the national hotline one time to complain about the dealer. They were pretty nice. Calmed her down which was something I could never do! As far as gas mileage, I have absolutely no complaints. I have a 2k2 auto and average usually 24 - 28 mpg and it has been that way all 20,000 miles.

I now have 6000+ miles on my 2k2 GLE auto.
I was averaging 24-28 mpg highway. I am now driving almost all city and my mileage is terrible. I average 14-16 mpg. I only use premium gas and I rarely floor the car.
I did have a couple of problems with my emission
control system. Had to have some exaust valve replaced and right after my charcol canister went.
My mileage was down around 12-14 mpg then.
The car should still get better mileage than that.
My 96 Olds Bravada AWD got around 15-16 mpg
city.

According to my trip comp I am getting consistent 22mpg city and highway combined. Highway only I got 31mpg. I know those numbers are off and should translate into about 18 and 27, which I think still isn't bad. Or is it?

For those with the bad mileage...

I know I could look through EVERY profile, but that takes a while....

question is: where are you located and what are the weather conditions during the time you noticed low mpg's? In addition to the obvious issues of having the A/C running, etc., there could also be heat/humidity issues. Really, this may not be as far fetched as you think.

I mean, engines run better with cool dense air, warm humid summer air is anything but ideal. Could be that in order to 'drive the same' more gas is being used (i.e. unconsciously using the pedal more) to achieve the same 'feel' of acceleration and cruising.

Hey, its a thought...

I have a 2000 Max currently with 24500 miles. I average around 19 mpg on both city and highway. Since I own the car I have never make it to 23 mpg.

I too have at times found 1st gear to be troublesome. The owners manual does state that 1st and reverse MAY NOT on occasion engage, and that the driver should go back to neutral, and try again. This is my first time driving stick, so I am assuming the 1st gear occurance is normal? What is interesting is that the manual made no reference to 3rd gear giving problems. That is something to mention to Nissan.

As far as mileage, my trip computer is saying 23 mpg city/highway combined, and I have 950 miles. HTH.

Regards,

ShysMax.
