With engine out what mods should I do?

If I do an engine swap, when I take out my 1993 VE engine what mods should I do to it while that car is out. Time will not be an issue. I figured Centerforce clutch, lightened flywheel, UDP, and Y-pipe. Are there any different cams, or high compression pistons I can get? Should I get the heads ported and polished? I will be turning this car into my project car. I won't suck a bottle, or used forced induction though. I figure all the other upgrades like the rest of the exhaust, CAI, ECU, can be done with the engine in the car.

BTW who makes the UDP?

You need the engine in the car to do the y-pipe. ASP Racing does the UDP...I believe their website is www.aspracing.com not sure though.

There's no sort of aftermarket internals for the VE, anything like that would be custom. Porting and polishing the heads would be a good idea, but dont expect a ton of power increase.

How much downtime can you afford? If you have a 2nd car and over $2k burning a hole in your pocket here are 2 things to do.
1. Remove the stock camshafts and send them to ISKY or schinder to be ground with the same valve timing as the 262* VG30 cams.
Next, buy some 11.1cr forged pistons (arias, JE, Ross it doesn't matter). Then have the crankshaft + UDP/flywheel, rods, pistons balanced + blue printed. Get the heads on a flowbench and have them port the intake/exhaust chambers. You will need to replace all valve oil seals, and probably run some SR20 valve springs + retainers. Replace/fix the VTCs.

2. If your planning on boost this is what I *would* do:
Replace the front/rear oil seals, exhaust manifold studs, clean the intake manifold, install 550cc injectors, replace/fix VTC, send the cams to be ground to the turbo *262 VG30 grind. Buy a HKS GT3037 and have happy boosting.

Everything else is covered in the FSM on what to do incase of an engine rebuild.

If you didn't think of this already, at least replace the exhaust studs with the stronger Turbo Z studs.

Then do what Ari said.

When you have the oil pan off (clean it well) and can put in a new oil pressure regulator assembly (dont shim it like the manuel says you can b/c its cheap enough to install a new regulator assembly).
