what to do when automagic is lag mode?
Yup, the evil lag in the auto tranny is really bugging me again. Weird thing is I get most often at low mph, usually anywhere from 5-20mph when I step on the gas. When it is in lag mode, the car seem like it's doesn't downshift and take forever for the rpms to go up, thus the car feels slow. When the car lags, I tried to do everything to get it out of lag, but it didn't work. I tried taking foot off gas and then step back on the gas, I tried "double pumping" the gas, etc., nothing work. I haven't try manually downshifting it into 2nd, should I do that? If I do that briefly, it should be ok right? I drive with my OD on all the time now. And no, with OD off, it doesn't make a difference, I still get the lag with OD off too. In the past, I thought maybe if I try "double pumping" the gas or blipping the gas first, then stomp on the gas, I would not get the lag. Well, I found out that didn't work either. Not for me anyway, seem to work for a few people. Could my tranny be slipping? How can I tell if my tranny is slipping? It seem to shift fine most of the times. One thing I noticed the tranny doesn't seem to have the "kick" it used to have when I first got the VB installed. Back then, it was great, hardly any lag. It's definitely a love and hate thing I have for the auto tranny.
for me, when i gas it at those speeds the RPM flies but the car doesnt... It takes couple seconds then were on our way... Maybe this 2nd stuff could work, but wouldnt that run the Speed sensor?
My car doesn't do this at all, it goes down into gear fast. The VB mod doesn't change the lag, it just makes the up-shifts faster. You can drop the shifter down, but I don't think it is that great for the transmission. Between 5 and 20 like you said is 1st gear. When you stop, put it down into first and then you can shift when you want, or you can get back into the gas and its already in the gear that you want. I find myself manually shfting around town alot anyways.

Thanks. I think I'll try manually downshifting it to 2nd gear. 1st gear is a little bit scary, I think I'll stay away from that.
I know doing this isn't good for the tranny, but if it's done once and in awhile I think it should be fine.
Ok, what if I have a SC, could I still manually downshifting it to 2nd when I get the lag? Or is it a bit too risky with the SC?
I'm not doing this on the highway, only on the street.

i have that problem alot, and it's worse on low speeds...happens to me often..and the car feels like it's in neutral or something
at around wat mph can i drop it into 2nd?
and
if i'm already going like around 60mph with the OD on, can i jus turn the OD off to drop into 3rd?

I know what you are talkign about. If you have the problem coming off stops signs, you need to stop! If you don't completely stop the car doesn't drop to first. In higher gears , like when slowing down for someone turning, just give the car some good gas and she will be happy to drop gears and go. I just got my Max on New Years eve and it took me a few months to figure out the tricks, but I don't have the problem anymore. Experiment and you will figure out whats up. The biggest key is as soon as you realize your out of gear you need to take action. If you wait even two seconds your rpms are too high or your car thinks you wanna be in that gear. Thick Quick, act quick. Best of luck.

nothing i've tried helps
i'm still trying to figure out this sometimes dumb auto
the problem is...sometimes the car feels like it doesn't drop gears and go...it jus sits there thinking about doing it but doesn't do anything
Put the pedal to the metal -- in otherwords, floor it -- the car will will drop a gear because it thinks you want to pass or something. As soon as you feel it shift ease off the gas. Maybe your cars acts different? I have a 98 SE.

wats the action u take?
nothing i've tried helps
Same as before, if I am in high gears I put the pedal to the floor. If I am at a stop signs I stop again to a complete stop and then go. It is the only thing that will get you in gear. Putting the pedal down works sometimes, but not often off a stop sign.
Like I said, play around. maybe drive around your block a few times and experiment. Your bound to find a few trick that help out at least a little.

I don't think there's anything that we can really do about it. We just stuck with the problem. This is definitely the last time I will ever have a car with an auto tranny. Even though I'm not real good at driving a 5spd, I think eventually I will get the hang of it. I'll take that then being stuck with another auto. Until then, I guess I just have to put up with it.

So depress the gas pedal slowly and then step on the gas? Or depress the gas pedal slowly until it downshift by itself? Hm...I don't know how that will get me out of the lag mode, but I'll try anything.
You know what? If the auto tranny on my Maxima has no lag whatsoever, I'll be very happy. I wouldn't care if it's slower than a 5spd. As long as there's no lag at all! At last, that's just not possible.
