What do I tell those who shake their head when I mention Maxima+Nitrous

I rarely ever tell anyone that I have nitrous because everyone shakes their head and reminds me that nitrous is very dangerous and will blow up my engine really soon. These people all say "man, you need to retard the timing a few degrees, that Walboro fuel pump won't do anything for you, and headers are a must."
I tell them about how I am following what other members have done successfully. The response usually is that these sites or people have no idea what they are talking about
What can I say to them?

Why even bother with people like that? It's like trying to explain to high school drop outs the importance of education. 75% of people out there are idiots. I try not to waste my time with them.

It is not a big deal at all and I do have to deal with these kinds of people. They are boyfriends of my girlfriend's friends. I just can't explain why my car should be fine with the nitrous.

Most of the org ppl are idiots and the ones with the knowledge are always quiet.. Probably laughing away at the idiots.. LoL

If they think nitrous is dangerous, have them help you install your walbro fuel pump..
Keep em locked in the car until your done..

Just curious how the conversations start?

if nothing more than odd disbelief (I get that all the time) just ignore them.

too bad they cannot ignore themselves...

Okay here it is
Him-"So what do you have in your car?"
Me-"Y pipe, intake, and exhaust"
Him-"well what about that NOS sticker next to your shifter? Just using it because it looks kind of cool?"
Me-oh yeah. I have nitrous on the car but I rarely use it. You know just for fun. No racing or anything. I mean it is a 4 door family car."
Him-Nitrous for real?"(Shakes his head) "Man that is so bad for your car. I bet you'll blow your engine really soon."
Me-well I try to follow the recommended methods and try to follow them as best as I can so that I don't blow up my car. I have an upgraded fuel pump on the 70 shot."
Him-"They don't know what they are talking about. I know what is going on. I have been rebuilding Ford engines for awhile and I know my stuff. You need to get headers for sure, and you need to retard the timing a few degrees"

Then I usually have to hear about how they don't need nitrous because they ran a 15.0 with their 2002 lowered Chevy truck with just an intake.

So can anyone explain why we don't really have to do much?
And by the way, I am following the recommended FAQ nitrous sites that this org gave me.

Back in the days, they don't have ECU on car. The timing is pretty much static. We have a knock sensor to help us retard the timing if needed. As for fuel, they used carb and mechanical fuel pump. We use eletronic fuel injection and eletrical fuel pump.

Just don't tell em Dom, they don't understand.

I am a 55 year old grandfather, what do you think people say when I tell them I spray and race? They are ready to cart me off in a straight jacket.

I don't have anything to prove to anybody, I just like doing what I do.

If you are running a bigger shot of N20 then you would need to retard your timing or improve your fuel/ignition systems, but a 50-70hp shot on either a V6 or V8 requires very little if any other modifications to perform safe and reliable. It is when you throw on a 100+ shot on any car without upgrading the weak links that you will run into trouble. They probably installed it on their own and don't have any knowledge about Nitrous or what needs to be done for it to operate safely at the levels they are squeezing.

I went to the auto hobby shop on the Marine Base when I was in to install my nitrous kit. Some kid that worked there came buy while I was installing it and said "man, what are you doing, your gonna blow your motor the first time you use that!" I asked him why he said that, and he said he had a lot of experiecnce with nitrous, and did not recommend it. After a while curiousity got the best of me, so I went to ask him more. Turns out he had put a 150 shot on an otherwise stock ford probe, and the first time he used it, it blew his engine. Well DUH! People will knock nitrous when they are ignorant about it, just ignore them and continue to enjoy your faster (when juicing) car....

Dont let them bother you I got alot of those people myself,I have ben running nitrous for almost 6 months and love it. I run a 100shot all the time, I am even moving up to the 125, and hopefulley 150. Now about the headers you dont need them but they would help alot, when you are running nitrous, its just like turbo, or sc your exhaust is your power maker. But I guess some people know too much.

The you know about your car and what/why you did things, the easier it is to explain. Just like most others here, there is no reason to defend yourself at all. You know what the best defense is??? Tell them to line up THEIR car next to yours at the track and run. If you beat him/her and DON'T blow up....who's smarter about nitrous then?

As 1Max explained, they are comparing apples to oranges. Older pushrod engines with a carb and mechanical pump had to be "played" with by someone who KNOWS what they are doing before it will run on juice. Many people thought they could do it and since they could just change a little something to go way way up on the power, they figured why not???? When they blew their engine because they tried to run 200 shot on stock internals, they blamed it on N2O..

There are many of us running N2O succesfully in our cars. How many of your friends have Maxima's? We share how to do it, just like we did. Ask your doubter buddies how many of their daily driver cars run 13's, on street tires, with full interior, 1/2 a tank of gas, and 150+K on the original engine.....

I agree with everyone here. Most people who bad mouth Nitrous are very UNEDUCATED. They do not research anything, have no idea what they are saying. I have stopped trying to explain/defend myself because of the ignorance. Trust me as you learn more and educate yourself (which we all do everyday) you’ll know who you can have a productive conversation with and who is just full of ****.

I know........ I hear the same crap at work.

Just tired of the "Oh your gonna blow your engine up" crap.

My point is if you dont know what your talking about, dont open your mouth.

Grandpa with juice........that is awesome!

You should just take off the sticker and race. You shouldn't have problem beating 15 sec truck with nitrous.

tell them you know this ctazy guy who has a 4 cylinder who runs a 70 shot wet with no retard of timing and can run 13's on slicks. haven't blown motor yet. ohh tell them its an auto. they will flip and say auto is slow. lol n20 is safe if done right like everyone said. i've had mine for awhile. you risk blowing something or wearing down your clitch or in my case tranny but the same for anything. you can get boost creep and it can blow your motor if motor can't handle. tell them that

By having the stickers on/in your car you are just asking for this or even instigating the argument. Many people are ignorant and if you argue with them then they will just bring you down to their level. Try taking the stickers off the car, stop trying to show off and watch your troubles disappear. Next time you want to convince someone your car can run then just arm the juice, beat the pants off of them for about 100 feet. Then just smile at them as they go past you 'after you shut it down' and they think they have beaten you. You know the truth and thats all that matters.

Alright let me clear this up. These aren't any arguments because I have a sticker by the shifter. I am not trying to show off. The sticker is just so sweet! With it I feel so invincible. Nobody can stop me. And I mean NOBODY!!!

I love my NOS sticker and I love my NAWZ!
