HOLY CRAP I just sprayed!!

OMFG!!!! Pardon the excitement but ****! I got bold today and decided to get the rest of the kinks worked out and get this install wrapped up for good. I put in the 50shot sequence of jets and the one step colder plugs gapped to .35. Since I couldn't really tell FOR SURE that it was firing right yesterday on the 30's, I did some diagnostics on the MSD window switch and found out that... if you set it as they tell you to "1" (cylinder per coil setup/distribless) you do not get the proper reading (620rpm at actually 1000rpm). I set it to "6" (Typical 6 cylinder distributor) and viola. Went out for a test drive...rolled into 3rd gear at a very low speed, floored it and flipped the arming switch at about 3200 rpm. *CHIRP* GGGOOOOONNNNEEEE!!! OMFG it was an incredible rush and was VERY noticeable on the ole butt dyno (which was puckering a bit I must admit).

I did another run starting off the same but I armed the system this time prior to hitting the 3000rpm start of the N2O window. So....2500rpm...3rd gear..going slow...arm system...dump accelerator and *CHIRP* GOOOOOONNNEEEEE at 3000rpm!!!! Made sure it shut off at 6200rpm as well. I think I finally got all the bugs worked out cuz she SCREAMED down the road. :

The only guess I can make on the MSD setup is that we used a schematic from online to pull the tach signal. I'm thinking this is not the actual sensor voltage coming in "wire" but is the post-ecu "analog" tachometer feed. Isn't a distributed application an analog pulse signal?

yeah, I'll never foget my first nitrous time. It was a 100 shot on my 305ci TPI IROC-Z.
boy did the tone of the motor ever change. I never thought a 305 could sound like that.
BTW, do our motors have forged pistons from the factory? What about the crank?

I want to tweak that kit for use on the max.

sorry

Get 2 step colder spark plugs. 1 step doesn't cut it sometimes.

I planned on putting 2 steps in when I up'd the anty to 75 shot. Shouldn't the 1 steps gapped at 35 be fine for a 50 shot?

I dunno, but after you see my spark plugs you'll run out and get some new ones quick. My one step colder copper plugs turned green after spraying 75 shot.

I run 75 shot on my one step colder with no problems, and 100 is ok also on 1 step colder.

if you running hot then you got other problems. What octane are you using, and are you sure you have the copper one step colder plugs?

yes they are copper one step colder. Maybe it's because I don't have a header. But I do have WAI and full MSD system(Coil, box, tach adapter, and msd digital window switch)

using 91 octane and retarding 3 degrees from stock timing.

Bro, those ****s dont retart time on our cars, they dont work. Also its your 91 octane. I run 93 octane to help with detonation. I think you should get yourself some unleaded race fuel (100+) and add it to tank to get higher octane rating.

Why don't they retard??? I have a distributor. I don't have a knock or any pinging. I did run 109 octane one time, didn't notice any difference.

Oh man, well no wonder you can retard timing and need to run 2 step colder plugs. On our vehicals (V6) you can run on one step colder plugs upto 100 shot with no problems. Even on 91 octane fuel. I guess the I4 engines run much more timing and are more prone to detonation.

Stock is 20 degrees. I advanced it to 22 degrees and retard 5.3 while spraying. So when spraying it's 16.7 degrees.

Well on the Maxima he can run 1 step colder plugs with 100 shot. But he does need a walbro 190 high flow fuel pump. Even for the 75 shot, the pump is a good idea, but he may be able to get away with the stock one. But its very sketchy.

I wouldn't recommend running stock pump on 75 shot. I have sprayed with a 75 shot on stock pump and it's not running right. This is maybe why I'm running too hot.

I also dont recommend it, but our pumps are a little more powerful. But you really have to pay attention to the fuel pressure gauge, thats why I tell everyone to get walbro pump once you get to 75 and above shot.

i ran 75 shot on stock pump with 100,000 mile on it with stock plugs at on point. i guess i got lucky. now im running one step colder copper plugs and walbro. so basically it can be done but at your own risk.

I'm not spraying again till I install my walbro fuel pump, pressure gauge and when I get my nismo fpr. And also install colder spark plugs. I'd rather waste the money on a header than another engine.

stock fuel pump will work fine on a 75 shot. I need to upgrade mine before I put in the other Nitrous jets I got.
