Fuel Pump, Nitrous, and Transmission Computer Unit Questions
Fuel Pump, Nitrous, and Transmission Computer Unit Questions
I've been studying this nitrous forum for the past 9 days and everything on here has been a big help but there are 3 things I'm trying to figure out and need a lil guidance on:
1> Would a Walbro 255lph fuel pump be too much for my Max when not running nitrous? I'm planning on getting the NX Nopi kit and using a 75 shot (wet) but before I even install the kit I want to have my car safely set up beforehand so I'm ordering a new fuel pump and I want to make sure I get the right one for this kit.
2> Jime or anybody with auto on nitrous- What is your window switch set at? I want to make sure that nitrous turns off before it goes to shift so the shift isn't slow. I'm going to get a Stage 2 VB Kit and a JWT transmission computer unit so that I can set the transmission for when i want it to either shift normal, lock out the 1st gear, or performance shift (sort of like the power shift which in the 3rd gen but set up for race conditions) but I want to make sure I have no traction issues for either strip or street and if I do it would be very minimal.
3>How much did you guys spend to set up your nitrous systems. I'm trying to add up everything I need so I can set up a price range and timetable (NX Nopi Kit, Gen-x2 upgrade kit, and other accessories)?
Any info or advice is appreciated very much

1. If you get a 190 lph it will be more than enough to handle anything you can throw at it up to about 200 HP or so. With the 255 you will definately need an aftermarket FPR, with the 190 you may or may not. Best to install the 190, check the fuel pressure and then if the fuel pressure is too high get the fpr. Stock fuel pressure is 34 at idle and 43 at WOT. These pressures should be the same regardless of whether you are on nitrous or not. If its a bit higher its ok the computer will adjust.
2. I set mine up for 1000 and 6000 because I spray right out of the hole. Try around 4200 and 6000 and see how it works. Your tach is probably reading high, most do but your window switch if you get the MSD 8969 will be right on. Even in 1st gear at 4200 you will probably lose traction without slicks so its a trial and error sort of deal.
3. I am afraid to add it up. However go with the Genx2 for sure and decide what you want for gauges, fuel, nitrous, egt etc. With the Maximizer and wideband I don't have to worry about fuel pressure etc because it shuts down at 12.5:1 afr. However that combo is around $1k so its a lot of $ for being able to tune yourself and not worry about blowing anything up. Probably overkill but I did it over a period of a couple years so it didn't seem like that much.
Best place I have found for the pump is http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/
GSS-250 $80 bare pump or it lists it for the DSM as FPD-004 $88 which comes with a filter etc that you can't use. Don't get the high pressure pump because you aren't boosting the pressure like the dry kits, it all runs at stock pressure.
If you do need an FPR they sell those also, I have the universal UREG model they sell. $110.

What kind of install kit did you get for your pump?http://www.autoperformanceengineerin...html/kits.html I'm thinking kit #10 or can I get the kit for the 89-94 Maxima and it work the same?

The first pump I got it came with a filter etc for the DSM but it won't fit so you are wasting $10 or whatever the dif is getting it. I just threw it away.

Thanks Jim,
That's definately an investment I need to make if the price is that low. I thought it was going to be 150+. I get a little throttle happy and bounce off the rev limiter pretty rare, but it happens. Definately don't want to do that while spraying. Does this come with the pills also, or is it programable?

Jim how is the Maximizer kit? I was thinking on getting that but if the MSD kit is better then I'll go with that. I was reading the article you had in Modified (sweet by the way) and to be honest I think it's awesome to have a automatic that can just 12's and 13's like clockwork. I'm looking at some of the FI cars and they're running 13.8 and whatnot but its just nice to know that need be u can go from stock to 12 second demon with a flick of a switch.

Honestly I have always sprayed through the shifts with my 4th Gens, the only reason I got the window switch was because the 02 shift from 3-4 just can't take the extra power from the nitrous. Even with the window switch it didn't work well so I just got the RPM level raised to keep it in 3rd. The DR mod works well for the 1-2 and 2-3 shift only.
My wife is now driving the car in that article, its back to stock and working great.
Jim did you send your ECU out to have the RPM level raised or did you do that with the Maximizer? Sounds like the Maximizer is definitely a must have. When you ran the 150 shot on the 95 Max did you need to do any major upgrades other than the Gen-X2 kit, fuel pump and the DR mod? I'm thinking if I get the VB kit, and the tranny computer upgrade then I might not need the DR mod.

For the 95 I did no major upgrades at all, y-pipe, slicks, DR mod etc. I still think the DR mod is best secret out there. I will put my shifts up against any VB mod.
