Low dyno #'s ???????????????

Mods cai, 3" y pipe, 3" cutout, 75 zex wet kit, 1 step colder ngk copper plugs.
1. 144.64whp 159.25 wtq
2. 156.22whp 165.77wtq
3. 230.23whp 274.88wtq
1st run was made with just cai, y pipe and cutout closed.
2nd run was made with cai, y pipe and cutout open.
3rd run was made with cai, y pipe, cutout open and 75 shot.

Are the numbers low for 1997 5 speed???

230-156=74, how much do you expect from a 75 shot?

That is within 2% which is what NX guarantees. What was you bottle pressure?

bottle pressure was at 950 to 1000. I was wondering if stock numbers were low.

I can't personally answer the question about low power for your car, except that my '99 with 3-inch warpspeed and CAI dynoed 154 hp for a baseline...

I would like to know how you mounted the 3" cutout - your dyno showed a 11+ hp gain with the base engine! I don't remember anyone else dynoing a cutout like this, with before-and-after numbers. What brand of cutout did you use, and how do you control it, and how did you mount it? Did you have an extension pipe on the cutout, or dump directly out?

I use a dual-stage NX with usually a 50-shot plus 75-shot on the strip, but running through a complete 3" warpspeed exhaust. If I can fit a cutout like you did, and get the HP gains you showed, well, it could be fun.....

Please share the details of your installation.......

Next year I am getting a test pipe built with a Y and a flange on the end. I have discussed the valve with a few folks now and their opinion is that they haven't seen out yet that doesn't leak so I am going to just have a blank on the end held on with a couple of nuts. I have to jack the car up to change tires at the track anyway so removing a couple of nuts would only take a minute or two.

However that is a pretty good gain from an open exhaust.

Sorry guys if this is sorta OT. I don't wanna revisit the "which provides better numbers? NX or NOS? Does 75 shot mean whp or engine hp?" debate; However, I know some people believe an NX 75-shot is 75 whp, but how can that be since the tranny power loss from auto to manual to fwd to rwd to awd are so different. It's not like NX specifies different jets for different cars.

Anyway, to the thread starter - yeah, your NA numbers are very low.

Your stock numbers look just like that, stock #'s, with no mods, on an auto. Though you will lose a little NA power with the colder plugs, your NA numbers should be higher. When is the last time you did a tune up on the car? You should post up your A/F and dyno graph as well.

dynojet 424x. But the dyno was done without a a/f ratio because it was free and wanted to do quick runs. Tune up meaning??? spark plugs, oil change, ks , o2 sensors?? Well spark plug was done recently like 5k, ks was replaced with the hardness 5k ago, oil change 800 miles, and belt was replace 100 miles ago, also clutch has been replace with both axles about 1k miles ago. clutch has been replaced with spec stage 1. I will post the picture of the graph later tonight.

The lower gears can potentially show lower numbers on an inertia dyno. Especially the smaller ones like the 224. However it appears you did all you could do.

The dyno numbers might seem low compared to others on this forum. However you did do a baseline and from there know how much power your cutout gives you. I did a simular dyno for my se-r (used a dynapack), my 3in cutout made 5whp/3wtq at peak but gained 11wtq at 2000 and 4000rpm! Also my 100 shot made right at 90whp/100wtq. Don't think that since your dyno results aren't as high as others that your car isn't making the power it should. If anything you should get some datalogs of MAF, rpm, timing, o2 voltage, STFT so when we could compare to others.
