Like the title says, do you weight your bottle after having it filled? It should weigh approx 25 lbs. SHOULD being the key word here..
I weigh mine before and after having it filled (I bring a scale with me)
Last 2 times filling my bottle I have noticed that they are ripping me off.
I have 18 lbs in the bottle before filling it. so I need 7 to fill it. The filling place charge me for like 8 lbs and then I weigh the bottle and it is only 22 lbs? That's a quick 15$... Tonite when I go fill my bottles I am going to ask the guy about whats going on. Becuase first time I let it slide maybe it was a mistkae.. but he did it again last week to me.. same deal.

Im not sure if you are aware but in order to get it to 25lbs (full) your bottle has to be pretty cold. Because if your bottle is warm or has alot of pressure built up you will get less nitrous. Last few times i have gotten a refill i put it in a bucket of ice water before bringing it in and it gets completely full.

Then if they are filling it from 18lb to 22 lb.. why are they charging me for 8 lbs of nitrous. Shouldnt they only be charging me for 4 lbs?

Yes they should only be charging you for 4 lbs.. You should let them know.. But why are you filling it up at 18lbs, I would say its better to drain the bottle and get it refilled comple***ly. So he doesnt just fill it up with air..

I always make sure to weight my bottle when filled, after each track event, and just before I take it for a refill. I put a strip of tape up near the bottle neck, and date each weight and what it means. It was pretty obvious to my refiller that I was tracking what he was doing. He wasn't cheating me, but he noticed..... I use a cheap floor scale w/ .2llb readout. May not be totally accurate but is repeatable. Good for tires and wheels, too.

He also started putting my bottles in a freezer before filling. He was pumping N20 in at room temperature, and the bottles got very hot and wouldn't fill up completely - sometimes too hot to carry when I picked one up at the shop. Freezing the bottle first allowed a complete fill every time. This was good for a few extra lbs.

at the two places iv gone to fil mine up, they always put it in a freezer, and i also empty it completly before giving it to them. might be a good idea to freeze it before hand or at least let it sit in a bucket of ice water incase they dont freeze it for long enough time.

Once you find out that you cannot completely use all the 10 lbs its probably a good idea buy another bottle so you can transfer from one partial bottle to another partial bottle.

I got a small nitrous line (12") to connect the 2 bottles together. Freeze one for a few hours and heat the other with your bottle heater. Connect the two bottles together with the hot one laying like its positioned in your bottle bracket in the car. How the other one is sitting doesn't matter but keep it lower than the hot one. Open one valve and then the other (slowly) and the hot one will transfer into the colder one. You can transfer all but approx 1/2 lb that way. You will have to repeat the process 3 or 4 times to get it that low.

I have done that for the last 2 years with great success and then you only take empty bottles to get filled plus you have a spare bottle. Worth the money. Go to a hydraulic shop to get them to make you a short line with connectors.

Excellent Information Jim.
I thought I was the only one that did that. I would only do it to get it down to about 1lb or so, but at least I wasn't completely wasting the extra nitrous.

My refiller will turn the bottle upside down, and open the valve until a white mist comes out instead of clear, then he will refill it. also the bottle gets a little colder after the discharge of the air. He also shakes the bottle sideways while filling it.

well, here they charge me 20 bucks for a full refill. so i just freeze it and then let out the remainder of nitrous to help it out freeze even more. then it will be completely full.
