I would like to get this but I don't know if I could spend $100 on an academic version, what's that all about?

Academic version is the same as an other other version it is just what Mcrosoft distributes to university's in large quantities. It just comes in a CD sleeve with the product key and nothing else (i.e no box/manual).

You will have all features, be able to validate with Microsoft, and get all updates through Microsoft's website.

Only difference is how the CD is labeled.

NO, how would it be for learning purposes if you didn't have a CD key to install it?

Software is distributed to students, faculty, and employees at a discounted rate due to a deal with Microsoft (or other software provider) where the university covers most of the costs, which they get from student's tuition and technology fees.

hey buzpuck, quick question for you. My school also has a deal with Microsoft, and I can get the XP, Office CDs relatively cheap. But upon buying, I had to sign a contract/agreement saying I cannot resell, did you sign this as well? Because I have like 4-5 of those x64 CDs laying aorund too haha
