FS: North Georgia- Red '85 Mazda RX7 GS (12A)

Yes, here's an RX7 on the maxima forum

Price: $1800 obo

I'm looking to sell my FB RX7. It's a cool little car and I've enjoyed learning about how carb's work with it, but I can't afford and really don't need to maintain 2 cars while I'm in school and working too, so here we are today. I have the title to this car, but I registered it to me with the bill of sale since I was short on cash. This shouldn’t be a problem though.

1985 Mazda RX7 GS

Engine: 12A Carb'd
Transmission: 5-speed
Drivetrain: RWD
VIN: JM1FC331XF0895726
Mileage: 228,XXX
Color: Sunrise Red on Grey Cloth Interior

Exterior: It's the stock paint, but shines great when waxed. It doesn’t have fading on the tops of the fenders or roof like all of the FC RX7’s I see. The passenger side door and the front part of the driver’s side fender are fading to a sort of orange color. I would honestly just re-spray the passenger door and call it a day since the door is the only noticeable part. The car has only a few small dings/ scratches, usual for a 25 year old car. The car has an aftermarket sunroof that I’ve re-sealed myself- It’s a simple pop-up one, nothing fancy. All the glass is good- no cracks or chips. And oh, NO MAJOR RUST! There’s very small surface spots below the taillights and where the holes are from where the spoiler was mounted from where the paint was flaked off, but NONE anywhere else. Not under the hatch, in the wheel wells, under the doors, anywhere! Great factor when you're buying an older car.

Interior: The only 2 things this car needs to make the interior pretty decent are 2 new door panels. The driver’s side, specifically, since it's ripped up. The passenger one has a few wrinkles, nothing major, but could use replacing as well. The center console is a black one from an S2 car, with dummy switches that could easily be wired for fog lights, stereo speakers, etc. The car has the remote fuel door latch. It has an aftermarket Sony CD player, with older Infinity speakers. It sounds all right, but it could use a little bass . The rear carpet is perfect, which is hard to come by. The rear plastics show some fading, but no cracks and they're not brittle or anything. The door handle cups, glove box latch, dash vents, radio surround, ashtray, and shifter surround are all painted black. The oil pressure gauge does not work, however. The car has maroon floor mats, visors, and a maroon steering wheel. The headliner is good, but it is missing the dome light cover. And the front carpet could use a good cleaning . The windows need help going up and down as well. They’re not hard to roll up and down, just not right on the tracks so they have to be guided.

Engine: Stock 227K 12A with rebuild carburetor around 3K miles ago. Disabled shutter valve, new air filter, spark plugs, plug wires, S4 FC alternator, removed A/C, new battery, fresh oil with Mazda filter, new Purolator aftermarket fuel pump and filter, removed hot start assist and cold start system, and replaced choke cable. Recently removed, polished, and clear coated stock exhaust tips. Good transmission shifter bushings, and perfect transmission with minimal bearing noise. The oil metering lines are new, as well as a lot of vacuum lines, an igniter on the distributor, and the coils. It does leak a small amount of oil, from either the oil pan gasket or oil metering pump to block gasket. Nothing major, simple fix. If you were to add an aftermarket header and remove the emissions it would increase the power output a good bit.

Suspension/Wheels/Tires: Bled the brakes and flushed the system 3K miles ago, and all brakes have at least another 10K on them. Good 85% front and 40% rear Futura 185/70/13 tires on stock X wheels in very good condition, stock shocks and springs in decent shape. Replaced idler arm bushings 3K miles ago. It has the stock open differential with drum rear brakes. No creaks or snaps from body- very solid chassis.I currently have both a RacingBeat front sway bar and a strut/firewall brace that will come with the car for an extra $200 if the buyer is interested.

All in all, this car would be a perfect little project for a father/son or something along those lines. It really doesn't need much and could be driven just fine the way it is now, you would just need to fix the little oil leak. Door panel's aren't too expensive for these older cars, and the rest can be fixed rather inexpensive with just a little time. Sadly I'm a little short on that...

If intersted, you can reach me (Brett) at (770) 561 7835. Thanks for looking!

I know, it's crazy. It's been for sale for almost 2 months, too. What's wrong with people? Maybe I should just drive it down to my Dad's in FL for Christmas

Thanks for the bump.
